abatlin Posted November 6, 2015 #1 Share Posted November 6, 2015 We will be in port at Laem Chabang for two days on Jan. 22nd. We are looking for transportation into Bangkok, spending the night, then returning the next day. Having been in Bangkok on several other occasions, we are not interested in taking a tour, simply finding the best means of transportation to get into the city then return the next day. Any suggestions as to the best way to do so, making the most of the time needed, yet not robbing the bank?
Rare Keith1010 Posted November 6, 2015 #2 Share Posted November 6, 2015 What we normally do is contact the hotel and get a price quote from them. Have you done that? Keith

John Bull Posted November 7, 2015 #4 Share Posted November 7, 2015 There's no useable public transport between Laem Chabang & Bangkok. And as well as being over-priced, ships' "Bangkok on your own" transfers are normally only available for return same-day. The only taxis available on-spec at the pier are operated by a cartel. Probably they have to pay a fat fee for the rights, but they certainly charge passengers a fat fee, around double the fair rate - they know that folk who've organised nothing in advance have no choice. The cartel has no control over vehicles arriving for a pre-booked pick-up or for vehicles dropping off. So you certainly should fix up a private transfer in advance - over the 'net or, as Keith's suggestion, through your hotel. Whichever way you do it, check to confirm closer to the date. Journey time is 90 - 120 minutes, but for the return to the ship quote your "back on board" time and don't be surprised if you're wisely advised to allow 2.5 hrs or more. But of course you won't be surprised - you've been to Bangkok before so you know about its traffic. ;) Can't give you an idea of cost, my figures will be out-of-date JB :)
