Lil2Angelic Posted November 10, 2015 #26 Share Posted November 10, 2015 If an ambulance was called, he was medically disembarked, not kicked off. This means that the doctor onboard decided that whatever the diagnosis of this person was, he was not equipped to handle it all the way back to the US. The person seems to be refusing medical attention in Mexico, and wanting to be flown home. It is perfectly within his rights to refuse medical care, just as if he were in the US, but he would have to sign a waiver, both for the hospital and for the ship's agent (who it appears he is arguing with, and who has his passport, as is normal for these kinds of situations) acting for the cruise line. This would not be done on the pier, but at the hospital and at the agent's office. I believe he also wants the cruise line to pay for his flight home. That ain't gonna happen. So are you saying that he would be required to go to the hospital, even though he's refusing medical treatment, in order to be released or considered safe to fly? I would think if the ship doc deemed that he be medically evac'd for whatever reason that an airline wouldn't want to board him either until he was deemed safe to fly. It only has to do with liability. Both the hospital and the cruise line would want it shown that they offered medical treatment, and that he refused. Then he's on his way, the agent would drop him at the airport, and he would have to get himself a ticket. If he had accepted medical treatment, then the scenario changes, and the agent would arrange for his flight, most likely front the money, and the cruise line would charge it to his shipboard account. Bob NC Posted November 10, 2015 #28 Share Posted November 10, 2015 I guess I've sailed Victory too many times because I recognized one of the guest service managers Joan :) She's a very nice person. I'll have to ask her all about it in 2 weeks when I board Victory again. *Without knowing all the facts* - It sounds like the guys wife is pissed (if she took his ring and remained on the ship without him), he's likely headed towards divorce and he's just been put off the ship late at night in Cozumel. Forget going to the airport, his problems are not going away so he might as well have fun and party in Cozumel or Cancun! :D Let me fix this for you.....*Without knowing ANY of the facts*
WISH84 Posted November 10, 2015 #29 Share Posted November 10, 2015 So are you saying that he would be required to go to the hospital, even though he's refusing medical treatment, in order to be released or considered safe to fly? I would think if the ship doc deemed that he be medically evac'd for whatever reason that an airline wouldn't want to board him either until he was deemed safe to fly. If a passenger is showing behavior that could be considered dangerous to themselves or others and is refusing any medical attention whatsoever, the ship/plane has the responsibility to remove that guest for their safety and the safety of others. The individual can still refuse medical assistance but they won't be sailing or flying anywhere until they can prove or demonstrate their ability to do so. Of course, with a ship.. once it's sailed... you have to start kissing someone else's ring. You are correct that an airline would also not want him to be on their plane. I suspect in this case, the ship made the decision that since the guest was refusing any medical assistance, appeared to be a danger to himself or others, advised the Cozumel officials of the situation and they dispatched an ambulance just to be safe. Hopefully this fellow eventually walked off the pier and slept it off someplace. We love Cozumel but I've never had to spend a night there with no hotel room.
TrqoisWtrs Posted November 10, 2015 #30 Share Posted November 10, 2015 It only has to do with liability. Yes, I sailed with a co-worker once that turned into a nightmare cruise. Long story short, she was taken to the hospital in an ambulance and then checked herself out of the hospital against dr.'s orders. Because of that, RCCL denied her request to reboard the ship and we left port without her.

PatyCake Posted November 11, 2015 #36 Share Posted November 11, 2015 Darn! I live here and can not find out what happened. Asked some friends in immigration but they did not know. Will have to see if I can catch some Triumph staff next time they are in port. I work at the International Port, not Puerta Maya or I would know by now. LuckyZ Posted November 11, 2015 #37 Share Posted November 11, 2015 Do you think it went down like this (name the movie) Vinny: Ms. Vito, you're supposed to be some kinda expert in automobiles, is that correct? Is that correct? Judge Haller: Would you please answer the counselor's question? Lisa: No, I hate him. Vinny: Your Honor, may I ask your permission to treat Ms Veto as a hostile witness? Mona Lisa: You think I'm hostile now? Wait till you see me tonight. Judge Haller: Do you two know each other? Vinny: Yeah, she's my fiancée. Judge Haller: Well, that would certainly explain the hostility.

mousey Posted November 12, 2015 #49 Share Posted November 12, 2015 (edited) I thought I heard him say, "Where's my passport?" or "Can I have my passport?" It was probably in his cabin. I hope so for his sake anyway...that it was in his cabin so that they could retrieve it for him. Otherwise, he's in for a horrible time trying to get out of Mexico and into the U.S. without it. I'm sure it can be done...but Wow! What a hassle! He must have done something really horrible to piss his wife off (if that is in fact what happened, as the video doesn't explain what actually did happened) for her to want to leave him behind. What a mess! Edited November 12, 2015 by mousey
