Is it just me?

We sailed on Dream last Christmas. We always book a balcony. We figured out pretty quickly we did NOT like the lanai. When I look out from my balcony I like to be able to look down at the water rather than looking forward and down to see the water. That's a minor inconvenience but the real issue for us was seeing/hearing people getting frisky in the hot tub below us and I definitely don't like our grandchild being able to see two people doing more than getting frisky...which he did. His daddy hustled him back inside their room next door to ours and we spent the rest of the cruise peeking to make sure the lanai activities were G rated before allowing him on the balcony.

Deliberately booked Freedom - a non-lanai ship - for this holiday season so I guess that's going to be our requirement...no lanai.

This is an interesting post for me, as we're sailing for the first time on a ship that isn't the Magic in January. LOL Not gonna lie, I'm a little nervous to go from a Dream class to an older, smaller ship like the Freedom. This is also our first "short" cruise, but we got it really cheap and we're turning gold, so I can't complain. I'm also going into it with an open mind, and I'm looking forward to sailing on a ship with the 2.0 upgrades. And really, a cruise is a cruise, so who cares. :D And for those of you snarking on the lady who wouldn't wanna cruise without a Guy's, geeze, get off your high horse! Who are you to throw shade at her for her opinion? The same reaction (that it's trivial) could apply to those who wouldn't cruise without a balcony.:rolleyes::rolleyes:

I was going to say the same thing, especially coming from a nurse. You base your cruise on a hamburger?

We must have a balcony, would not stay in an inside cabin

Why not? Everyone gets to decide their own reasons to cruise and if Guy's is the reason for that person, what's wrong with that?

Personally, I rarely stay in a balcony as I don't want to waste money for something I use very little. So to me, your decision to must have a balcony is as silly to me as you thinking the poster who must have Guy's is silly to you.

Looks like you're going out the day we get back. :) The Freedom isn't my favorite ship (that's probably the Triumph, since we've sailed on her several times and she feels like an old friend now) but it's not a bad ship either.

The only must I have right now is I refuse to do the Southern Route out of San Juan on a Fantasy Class ship. They are fine for the shorter cruises, but not for a 7 night port intensive cruise. We like to things to do in the evenings while moving from port to port. Steakhouse, Movies by the pool. That route needs a Conquest ship.

Only one, it HAS to float..............:D

I agree with this poster.

We have only cruised Carnival and we have been in every kind of cabin except the owners suite, and was offered that one time but didn't take it. I love the vista suite on the Legend best but we want to do more cruising so we do balcony, ocean view and have even had a inside once or twice. We love cruising and aren't in our cabin that much and that's mostly to take a nap, sleep and shower. But to each his own and what makes you happy is the most inportant thing. There is always something to do.

I agree. If it floats it is for me. However, we like the layout of the Spirit class of ships.

It's true we all have preferences (I myself prefer the Conquest class with the adult only pool aft side) but I have no requirements for that and have joyful sailed many other classes. I also prefer Guy's and the Blue Iguana but have and will continue sailing without them as well.

Nope. It just has to float.:D Am I sad when we end up having (because of time off requirements or whatever) to book a ship that doesn't have X, Y or Z amenities? Yeah. But any day at sea is far better than a day on dry land.:D

We enjoy "dry land" vacations as much as cruises. They are different, but equally enjoyable....both having their pros and cons. We took a "dry land" vacation this year and now I realize how important the amenities are to me.

A lot of ships have the wrap promenade, just not carnival. So try other lines.

I feel very blessed to be able to cruise as much as we do.

So no we don't have special needs or we won't cruise criteria.

My first cruise was on a ship that was 16,000 ton's and we thought it was big. cabins were 100 sq ft, bathroom was a all in one room. sink shower and toilet. ( you had to watch your step.)

It's all perspective. I'm sure there are people that won't fly unless it first class.

Unfortunately no others out of Galveston. And having to fly to another port is a cruise-breaker for us. If we are flying somewhere, it would be a non-cruise vacation.

I can think of a lot better reasons not to cruise besides a hamburger joint. There are so many ships and ports and activities to choose from. I cruise for the cruise atmosphere.

I cannot understand all this fuss about Guys Burgers. But I will give it up to Carnival that they can get people that excited about eating ground beef. I have seen many pictures posted here of a Guys Burger...they don't look all that appetizing to me.

But I will get to experience one first hand when we sail the Breeze next year. Given all the hype, anything less than the "best FOOD ever" will be a disappointment. Frankly I don't expect them to be even half as good as the ones I grill at home.

We were just talking about this last night. We got hooked on Cloud9 on the Splendor to Mexico a few years back. It is right up our hedonistic alley! :)

Hello!

I'm booked on the Splendor in a Cloud9 spa balcony room. I guess call me naive, but what do you mean by this?

While on the Dream a few years back me and my friend took advantage of the spa during our sea days and loved it, so much so that this time around me and my sisters booked the Cloud9 room.

Love it, can't wait!

The thing is, you don't have to understand. Just as many here may not understand things that make you excited or that you fuss over.

BTW, is a Guy's hamburger the best FOOD I've ever eaten? No. Not even the bast hamburger (that title for me goes to Gordon Ramsey's BurGr in Las Vegas). But Guy's is pretty high on the list and it's included in the cruise price to boot!

I'm just happy to be on a ship most times. Having said that, we've taken several short cruises lately and discovered the Dream class ships meet our "needs" much better. We like to listen to music and get done dancing in. On the smaller ships the only location for that is the horribly smoky casino bar on the boulevard. Give me an Ocean Plaza!
