grammyprf Posted December 4, 2015 #1 Share Posted December 4, 2015 Anyone been to this beach? How long is the bus ride? Is there food and restrooms? Thanks:cool:
Rare crewsweeper Posted December 4, 2015 #2 Share Posted December 4, 2015 Do you mean, Brewer's Bay Beach over by the University? It's a local's type of beach, no parking, few amenities. Nothing near typical beaches tourists go to. Bring your own towels, no loungers. Okay snorkeling, maybe some sea glass. Water is a bit warmer than Atlantic side beaches. Some shade near trees. I'm guessing you can take the local bus, I don't think they use a set schedule. It's a bit of a trek from Havensight, if that's where you dock. Crown Bay docking is closer. blue_water Posted December 4, 2015 #3 Share Posted December 4, 2015 Anyone been to this beach? How long is the bus ride? Is there food and restrooms? Thanks:cool: As crewsweeper said above you'll find somewhat limited amenities as compared to the more popular beaches but a less touristy beach. You are scheduled to dock at Havensight (WICO) in January so it's a $6 - 8pp taxi to Brewers (no bus). What are you looking for in a beach? You are sharing the island with 4 other ships (~20,000 fellow cruisers), I'd recommend Hull Bay for a nice quieter beach with restrooms and a beach bar, bring towels to lay on. http://www.hullbayhideaway.com/ For good snorkeling with less a crowd than at Coki look at Sapphire. http://www.sapphireinthesun.com
grammyprf Posted December 4, 2015 Author #4 Share Posted December 4, 2015 (edited) Looking for quiet beach maybe alittle snorkeling and seaglass. Only for a few hours. How far is Hull Bay beach by taxi? As crewsweeper said above you'll find somewhat limited amenities as compared to the more popular beaches but a less touristy beach. Rare crewsweeper Posted December 4, 2015 #5 Share Posted December 4, 2015 (edited) Maybe 20 minutes without traffic; 1/2 hour with. From Havensight. It's about 5 miles. Edited December 4, 2015 by crewsweeper
blue_water Posted December 4, 2015 #6 Share Posted December 4, 2015 (edited) Click this map and you'll see Hull Bay on the north side of the island just west of Magens. Brewers is by the airport, and Lindbergh Bay (aka Emerald) this side of Brewers near Crown Bay. So all of these are 20 - 30 min via taxi from Havensight. There is a bus system that runs the East End if you don't mind walking some and waiting, that drops you within an easy walk of Sapphire...Hull, Brewers, and Lindbergh require a taxi... http://www.virginislandsthisweek.com/images/st-thomas-island-road-map.jpg [EDIT] You can rent snorkel gear and lounges at Sapphire and there are runners on the beach taking drink and food orders. Lindbergh is more a "beaching it" beach with the Best Western for amenities, while Hull has a beach bar but not much else, very natural. blue_water Posted December 4, 2015 #8 Share Posted December 4, 2015 Thanks this map is very helpful!:) Sure! I should clarify if you did take the bus it drops you at the entrance to the Sapphire condo property and it's a 5 - 10 min walk to the beach - downhill one way but not the other! Ms411 Posted December 5, 2015 #10 Share Posted December 5, 2015 Unless you have a group of say 6 or more, you may have trouble getting a taxi to take you there. The taxis like to go to popular tourist areas where there's a possibility of them getting more passengers after dropping you off. Since Brewers is mostly a local beach, the possibility of them getting passengers leaving the beach is almost none. Have a Plan B beach or rent a vehicle and drive. blue_water Posted December 5, 2015 #11 Share Posted December 5, 2015 Looks like brewer bay may be our choice....:D Lindbergh Bay is close to BB, if time allows you could hit both and have lunch at the Best Western, or at the Island Beachcomber which has a bit more local and casual vibe.
