Suggestion for private transport in St Maarten

Hello and Happy Holidays...DH and I, as well as 4-5 family members are going to be visiting St Maarten on the Reflection in 2017....I know it is a long time from now, but since i am the family organizer, I start the party early. What we are looking for is transport that will take us to the places we want to go to, wait for us ( maybe an hour or two at any given site) and return us to either the ship or the downtown area. As mentioned there will be several of us so we will need van accomodations. DH and I have only used buses in St Maarten previously. Anyone have a reliable transport suggestion? Have you considered renting a van for your group and driving yourself? That would give you maximum flexibility. I am sure Bernard or some other tour organizer could accomodate you if you are reluctant to drive yourselves, but you would find that getting around the island on your own is not that challenging.

That would be the ultimate in flexibility but I would not be able to imbibe and that does not sound like much fun to me...Thanks for the suggestion though. I did a search and found a company I think will accommodate our needs and time frames. Julie

We were there in November and used D&A taxi. There were 10 of us, Domingo was very good. We choose our places to visit. I highly recommend them.

I'd love to hear how this worked out! We will be in St Maarten in March and the excursion we would like is not offered on our sailing. Also, who did you use and how much does a private car cost?

We were there in September 2014 and arranged for a private driver about a month a head of time. I contact st.maartens tourism and they gave me a name. He was awsome. Picked us up outside of the port. Provided snacks and drinks. Called me before hand to confirm what we wanted to do and sent pics od himself and car so we would know. He also communicated through email with us. He took us to all our stops and waited very patiently for us to be ready. Never felt rushed at all. It was myself, husband and 4 yr old. It cost us $250 for the day. We did butterfly farm, mullet bay (did orient bay last time), maho beach to see the planes, st maartens zoo. (this was such a cute zoo- definetly recommend if u have time. Just dont expect zoos like we have here. We were gone abt 6 hrs

Yes. Its for a private taxi that will take you where u want to go all day and wait for you. Same for 1 person of 5 people. I just emailed them bc we r going back in September and will have our 16m old at the time and wanted a carseat for us to go to 1 beach for a few hrs and then back to port. Still $250 even though we were only going to a beach for a few hours. Its bc they are basically dedicating a day to you. So needless to say we wont be doing that this time around.

 

This driver was good and a previous time we went and got a regular taxi driver at the port and they were good also
