The Sheraton Old San Juan

Looking for info on the The Sheraton Old San Juan. We have a room booked there in May 2016 for a Cruise departure the next day

It appears to be literally at the end of the Cruise docks in San Juan. We booked it thinking surely it is possible to walk from the Hotel to the Ship and Embarkation, correct? Not really concerned with luxury just as long as it's clean.

Anyone?

So far we have always stayed at the Sheraton Old San Juan (using Starwood points) Easy walk to the Carnival Ships. They are literally a half block away. But you do have to cross the street and the street is always busy. But it would be a waste of time and money to get a cab.

We have been happy with the rooms that we got at the Sheraton. Regular rooms are comfortable and quiet. We were once upgraded to the Governor's Suite. A four room apartment on the top floor with kitchen, bedroom, Lounge, and Conference room. It's bath was a large as most hotel rooms.

Scheduled again in January at the end of our cruise.

The supposedly have gotten rid of the casino, so it is probably a little quieter.

Nice hotel. Very close to the dock, you can walk to the pier though if you have a lot of luggage you should get a cab. Last time we stayed there we were part of a group of 16. We put all the luggage and one person in the cab and everyone else walked to the pier. The distance is not long but you have to cross a couple of streets and go over cobblestones.

Nice casino on the hotel.

Tip the Bell Hop and he will take your luggage across the street and drop them off for you.

Same on return if you are staying post cruise, tip the porter and they will deliver to the hotel.

Go up to the top deck early morning and enjoy your coffee looking at the ship.

The elevators are just a little slow and the lobby gets crowded with cruise guests in the morning, but we found it a great place to stay before the cruise. There was an officer directing traffic at the corner so crossing the street with our bags was no problem. From there to the cruise terminal was an easy walk. The breakfast buffet on the second floor is slightly pricey but very good. We could see the ships from the window in our room, but the view from the dinning room terrace is very picturesque.

Alas, no more casino. At least not for now.

You can walk if your ship is cruising out of the Old San Juan pier....If you're cruising out of the Pan American pier...then ...no.

Thank you so much for your input. I was unaware of this Pan American cruise port. Do you know by chance which Ship lines use this pier? I'm a little panicked now because I just read a travel article that stated the Cruise piers in Old San Juan are mostly for ships stopping in for the day and that the Pan American pier is moistly used for ships embarking from San Juan as the origin of the cruise.

It appears you are sailing on Carnival's Fascination, so you will be at the Old San Juan terminal.

Just a little tip about this hotel: you can save a lot of money if you book under their AAA rate. Only catch is that the AAA rate has to be paid up-front when you book, and it's nonrefundable.

But, you really can save a lot. I just booked it for my cruise next year. The regular rate for a standard king room would have been $261 with taxes and fees, but I paid $188 instead. Saved $73!

We just got back from our cruise 8 days ago. We stayed at The Sheraton Old San Juan for a night before and again for a night after the cruise. I agree the street is busy but drivers in Old San Juan stopped for pedestrians everywhere we went in OSJ. It would take you longer to wait for a cab to drive thru the traffic than to walk. I agree with the person who mentioned that the breakfast buffet is pricey, although I think every place we ate in OSJ was expensive, but yummy!! I hope you have a wonderful cruise, wish we were joining you-lol!:D

Stayed here a few years back before a Carnival cruise. It was great!!! location is literally minutes from the dock. ADVICE.....check out on the TV before leaving the room and just drop the key off in the box, it is usually packed in the lobby the morning of a cruise.

I just booked this hotel today for our May 2017 cruise using the AAA rate and opted to pay a bit more ($40.00 total) to have no deposit (full payment at time of booking) and no cancellation fee...total for two nights $398.00 inc all taxes standard king room..ok with me.
