Switching to Select dining once on board

Has anyone had trouble switching to Select dining once on board? We always use Select dining but have chosen Late Seating for the moment. We would like to use our on board credits to pay for our Select dining once we board.

You can always request the change, but on many recent cruises, Select Dining was oversold and changes were denied. You are not alone in wanting to use your on-board credit for gratuities, and there may be many people asking to make the same change. Some are successful, some are not, so all you can do is see the Maitre D on embarkation day and ask.

On our recent Silhouete (11/22/15) cruise we asked the first night and were told that select was completely booked. Since we had second seating at a two top table I asked the Maitr'd (Alex) what he could do. He let us come in around 7:30 and always had seating for us. It was better than select as we never waited and usually got the same table! That's when a tip works wonders.
