biojeep Posted December 26, 2015 #1 Share Posted December 26, 2015 We have begun to finalize our DIY itinerary & unfortunately we cannot do both Seward & Homer. We would like to have opinions from those who have experienced both in order to help us to make a final decision. In Seward we were planning the Bay tour only due to motion sickness problems, the Sealife Center, & Exit Glacier. In Homer we were planning on the bay tour to Seldovia, the Spit, the Pratt Museum, Alaska Ocean Center & Coastal Studies Center. We are leaning more toward Homer because we think the drive there will allow us to experience more of the Alaska small towns. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated in helping us make our final decision.
Suzanne123 Posted December 26, 2015 #2 Share Posted December 26, 2015 No contest. For me, it's beautiful, sunny, Homer.

mapleleaves Posted December 27, 2015 #4 Share Posted December 27, 2015 yes, Homer is beautiful on a sunny day; not so nice when the wind is howling and rain is coming at your sideways. Same is true of Seward. You need to look at the sights and activities available in each location to determine which one best supports your interests. Both towns have web sites http://www.homeralaska.org/ and http://www.seward.com/ There's also http://www.kenaipeninsula.org
Budget Queen Posted December 27, 2015 #5 Share Posted December 27, 2015 With you not considering Kenai fjords by boat (although there are some very good motion sickness preventions) I too give the edge to Homer. Yep, have been to both many times. Your list is a good list of activities- IF of interest to you? (not just a random list)

Suzanne123 Posted December 28, 2015 #7 Share Posted December 28, 2015 Suzanne123, What are your suggestions for things to do in Homer? My favorite is the full day kayak trip with St. Augustine's http://homerkayaking.com/#_=_ We also took the ferry ride over to the Saltry restaurant at Halbut Cove. http://www.yelp.com/biz/the-danny-j-homer You can download the Chamber of Commerce guide here: http://www.homeralaska.org/sites/default/files/2015%20Visitors%20guide.pdf?sid=12847
rostbp Posted December 28, 2015 #8 Share Posted December 28, 2015 Been to both. Seward many times and Homer only once. I would pick Homer again. Although the drive to Seward is spectacular. You still will get a little of that going to Homer. Plus more of the Kenai
Budget Queen Posted December 28, 2015 #9 Share Posted December 28, 2015 Budget Queen,Have you taken the bay tour to Seldovia? Is it a good tour? I take the ferry over and have stayed there a few times. Very very nice area. I've never taken any "tour"?? Not sure what it would involve, since it isn't difficult to pick and choose on your own what to do, and book your own ferry ticket? You may want to post the tour you are looking at? Being the ferry schedules can be a short amount of time- I have always stayed there at least overnight.
