Hello everyone:

I have run into an obstacle I am hoping someone can help. I called Cunard to pay for an upgrade to a balcony on a coming sailing. They will allow me to pay the difference between what I paid and what my new cabin price is but they insist that I cancel the entire booking and also the air booking, incurring an extra $265 fee for rebooking the air, which I want to leave alone. Anyone run into this before and can advise me on the process? Thank you.

If the upgrade rate is at a new rate code for new bookings only , then Cunard may insist that you cancel and re book .

However no need to change your air schedule?

Call back during the week . Sometimes weekend reps are not the most

knowledgable and supv's may not be around .

Here is where a good Cruise Specialist TA would have come in handy.

Thank you. I have a better understanding of this now.

I do have a cruise specialist TA but he was not familiar with this. This becomes a new booking in order to get the lower rate and no penalty from Cunard but the air has to be be cancelled and rebooked, even though they are the same flights, and the extra fee goes to the airline.

This is very strange ... I assume that Cunard also booked the flights.

It would seem to me that this is a case where Cunard's reservation system is not able to transfer a flight from one booking to another so they have to cancel the flight and you have to pay the change fee. Seems a bit unfair.

What would happen if the flights were no longer available at the price you paid??
