Rare BillOh Posted January 28, 2016 #76 Share Posted January 28, 2016 One more thought on this subject. We haven't talked much about picture sizes. I posted more of my early pics sized in a 800x600 resolution. In the last couple of reviews I have used 1024x768 as my standard. I've owed my own PC Repair company for more than 20 years so I have a good feel for what kind of monitor/screens people are using them and how they use them. When I first came to CC in 2006 many of my customers and some people here were accessing this forum with dial up modems. My last dial up customer finally made the switch about 2 years ago, so I don't worry about having too many pictures or what size for that reason. I do have a quality camera and notice people who post large photos get the most praise. I remember when 19" monitors were $1000 US, but now they are cheap. I will probably stick with 1024*768 for now, but I do know you don't want to post a huge picture in the middle of a page and then go back as it makes the post hard to read. What size are most of you using?
Rare John&LaLa Posted January 28, 2016 #77 Share Posted January 28, 2016 (edited) My lack of food porn isn't any set feelings against it, just for me that is the one time of the day I put my camera away so I rarely take any dining photos. I almost wish I had taken it to Chops on my last Freedom Cruise. One of our roll call members told me about the bacon appetizer and how good it was. I hadn't heard of it as it wasn't offered on my last cruise that had a Chops (2013) But I have seen it posted again. Boy was that good. I look for the unusual and try to post pictures that other people haven't seen, but are still interesting. My 2013 Allure cruise was one of my first that had the Coke Freestyle machines. Those were getting rave reviews. The week we were on was a major exception as they were in a empty or state of disrepair quite a bit. Royal would have been embarassed if I had take some of the photos of those machines that week. Anyway, I accept that as an aberration. I think the one thing I have taken away from this thread is to not leave the readers hanging for weeks. I've been guilty of that. I'll try to be more organized this time around. Getting back to the food porn, after enjoying Gambee's reviews very much, I did have to poke fun at one 1024x768 photo of a basket of mayonnaise packets on Labadee. I did praise enough of his reviews that I feel its not too insulting to mention it again. I did mention I do tend to make sure I right in paragraphs to make it easier for the user to read and skip portions that don't interest them. I think next time I will add a few in review titles such as: PRECRUISE DAY 1 That way people who live near the ports or aren't interested can skip those sections a little easier. By the way, this was a good topic. the picture doesn't do it justice And this was from my laptop using Shutterfly Edited January 28, 2016 by John&LaLa

What size are most of you using? I use flickr to dump my photos to. Their "share" function will give you the BB code (formatting for CC posts) to cut and paste. In the share area, you can get the BB code for things like "original" (which varies based on the original photos resolution - in this case 4608 x 3456 would be way too big for a CC post!) and other different size options. Here's a screenshot of that menu: Also, here's a sample of the same photo at different sizes. That being said, my default size is also usually 1024 x 768 because at that size it is big enough to appreciate, but (usually) not big enough to make folks scroll side to side in a browser window which gets old fast! :) Medium (800 x 600) Large (1024 x 768) Large (1600 x 1200)
PCWalton1 Posted January 28, 2016 #81 Share Posted January 28, 2016 Here is same pic from TapaTalk. Problem is I can still only attach pics as a reply, not in a new post Sent from my HTC One_M8 using Tapatalk For me on Tapatalk at the bottom where it say Quick Reply, to the left there is a circle with an up arrow it in. If I tap that it gives the option to just post a picture.
wolfganghowell Posted January 28, 2016 #82 Share Posted January 28, 2016 Ha, I was about to post the exact same thing about the giant pictures. I like information on the entertainers - the bands, who is in Schooner, Pub etc. I'm another one who can't stand when people copy and paste entire messages and photos. Quote the applicable sentence for context but geez, seeing the exact same post over and over is insane.

pcrum Posted January 28, 2016 #87 Share Posted January 28, 2016 I love to read the entire story, especially the pre-planning part. How did you choose this sailing, how did you get to the port, pre-cruise hotel information, etc. I also enjoy the details of your last day, whether you spent an extra night in the city you cruised from or if you went home that same day. Also, if you have traveled on other cruise lines, I enjoy the compare/contrast between Royal Caribbean and other lines you might have sailed on. Photos are great, but not a deal breaker for me. A good narrative can make up for a lack of photos! I do enjoy food and drink porn though! Thanks! Looking forward to your review.

I can see however, how some people get intimidated trying to quote just a line when the OPs message has multiple pictures, fonts, colors and other options. Having some HTML experience I can figure it out, but if its too much, I'll copy the piece I want, hit reply and manually add my own quote brackets . The only problem with that is it doesn't indicate who the quote is from.

The only problem with that is it doesn't indicate who the quote is from. As long as the beginning and ending "QUOTE" brackets are not messed with, anything in-between can be deleted as needed and the blue quote box that is in the reply will be fine (including the original posters name). Example: I agree. I can see however, how some people get intimidated trying to quote just a line when the OPs message has multiple pictures, fonts, colors and other options. (rest of it trimmed out) In the example above, the information after the opening "QUOTE" has the posters name and the link to their original post:

I think that's what I used in my Oasis Photo Review. Large enough to see details, but not too large. Although I can see the whole 1600 x 1200 photo without scrolling, I think it's still too large. PS...I thought about quoting that whole post with the photos, but I refrained. ;)
