$1000 OBC Limit for Canadians - Anyone had the difference refunded?

Here is my experience. I cruised Dec 26th to Jan 2nd on the Spirit. I was at the 1.11 purchase rate. I contacted ncl with the the idea of purchasing my next trip

through the future cruise dept with the obc on the ship. Future cruise dept said no problem go ahead it is done often. So I purchased directly with customer service 10000 obc for that purpose. Dec 24th sitting in Orlando waiting for our cruise I get the email. Sorry we made a mistake ( you know the rest of the story). Explained my previous conversations with the finance dept. this did not matter money was refunded.

So Future cruises says go ahead make the purchase. Customer service rep says

no problem here is the obc....!? I would hope they can sit down as a company and figure this out.

Just an update...I called ncl last week to have my excess $ refunded since I read on here that they were imposing the $1000 limit. today I received the the credit on my cc. it was in cdn-exactly how much i paid. it took them 5 days, just as they had said it would.

I just called to get my 900$ extra OBC back (i had 1900$ OBC for 5 persons).

I will probably prebook more shore excursions instead.;)

But looking at my NCL account after the call and the new amenity invoice they just sent me everything looks wrong. The numbers are not good and are all different. Anyway i'm getting used to the NCL website glitch. I will wait to see if the refund on my CC is for the right amount and then ask again for a new amenity invoice to see if everything is back to $1000 OBC.

I'm disapointed from NCL for this situation but I will forget it and enjoy my cruise. But I will certainly consider another cruise line for my next cruise. Not saying I will never cruise with NCL again but they lost my loyalty.:(

But the worst is what I have read on forums about that situation where many where bashing canadians because of that. It leaves me a sour taste...:(

I just got only Half of my refund on my CC today

Again Im very unhappy with NCL

I will have to call again, very frustating !

If you bought it in more than one order then that could be why. Especially if in two names. In that case I bet they gave each person USD500 and will return the excess in two sums of which you have received one.

Well according to the amenity invoice i received just after calling, the lady has refunded more than needed and then put back some OBC to come back to $1000. (I was on hold for 25 minutes when she did it).

Hard to believe but i had Only 10*75$ (750) on my own name and now it shows $900 on my name and only 100$ on my wife name. So she added 150$ on my name that i never purchased by myself.

So confusing

amenity invoice now shows $1000 OBC total

NCL.com vacation summary shows $1300 OBC total

NCL.com Payment summary page shows $850 OBC payment

NCL.com Make a payment page shows only $225 (gift & more)

Just half of the extra $900 has been refunded yet.

How could they be worst ?

Wow that is shocking.

I wonder if that is something ship specific to the Star or some new policy that they have put in place?

Did they say they would refund to your credit card? Or were they planning on mailing you a check post cruise for any monies not spent?

Well certainly not on Norwegian Star !! I was refused to withdraw any money from my onboard credit
Did they say they would refund any unused OBC to your credit card or by check?

Maybe they are just trying to make sure that OBC is used onboard the ship and if that is the case, they really have to figure out something, so that dollars can be used in the casino. I understand not giving cash, because some won't use it in the casino, but possibly promotional chips and slot play would solve that.

Yes exactly there should be a way to purchase OBC and be able to use it in the casino.

FYI we were on the getaway from Feb21-28. we bought $1000obc and were able to withdraw some from the casino with a 3% fee on 2 separate transactions. i wonder if they only allow certain amount to be withdrawn? some of our obc were spent onboard.

This is weird, I was on the same cruise with you, had no problem at all to withdraw my 1000$ on day 2, same thing for my friend on day 3....

When did you go???

Were you trying to withdraw your money at the front desk and were denied?

This is the only explanation I can see for there being different reports from two people on the exact same cruise.

The only place you can get cash from your on board account is in the casino.

There must be a reasonable explanation of why you were denied access to your funds?

At first the guest service manager said they would issue a check after the cruise. .. I refused and asked that they cancel the credit card transaction which they did ! I was not impressed overall, so we're the 4 other couples with us who had purchased some OBC as well

Could you please share with us the reason they told you "No!" in the casino and at guest services. They must have explained to you why they refused to do this. Others have indicated no problem with doing this transaction.

Since most of us have purchased OBC and were counting on cashing it out in the casino, this new development is of much interest to us.

I will cancel our $1000.00 before our cruise in May if we have to use it strictly for onboard expenses.
