Royal Princess Questions

We are looking at a 10 day on the Royal Princess for this Spring Break. The itnerary is great, and so is the price.

1. Do they have the fountains turned on during the day for kids?

2. Room Service? Free 24/7? Does anyone have a menu?

3. Will younger kids be bored? 7 and 10 years old

4. Is anytime dining similar to Royal, where reservations are pretty much requred? Or carnival, where you get a pager.

5. Anything else that would good to know?

Thanks.

1. Do they have the fountains turned on during the day for kids? No. They have deck chairs set up the the platform.

2. Room Service? Free 24/7? Does anyone have a menu? Yes. Except for pizza- $3 and some specialty items like shrimp cocktails and guacamole for group entertainment. I do not have a menu, but it is pretty basic.

3. Will younger kids be bored? 7 and 10 years old Princess does have kids clubs that have been reviewed well. Princess is not like RCCCL or Disney or NCL. The activities are more adult focused and there are no skating rinks, ropes courses, water slides, etc.

4. Is anytime dining similar to Royal, where reservations are pretty much requred? Or carnival, where you get a pager. More like Carnival. You go to the desk, ask for your table size. You may be seated right away or you may have to wait. If you have to wait, most ships have pagers.

5. Anything else that would good to know? Princess demographics differ a bit from Carnival and RCCL. The ships are more sedate in decor and activity. The majority of the cruisers are middle aged and up. There is a high loyaty base. Kids are very welcome, but there is not as much for them to do.

Hi, we've done the 10 day during March a few times now ( see signature) with our kids and we are on Royal this March 13. They are now 16 and 13. They prefer Princess. We've offered them RCI with flowrider and rock climbing, they've done Carnival with waterslides. They want Princess. So it really depends on your kids. Ours like the kids clubs on Princess, the all day full offering buffet, the freshwater pools, etc. They are not always on the go people. One disappointment for us - Our son often went up to the sports court on Regal last year to shoot hoops and found it being used for adult dance or aerobic classes.

If your kids are very active and like high energy activities then yes maybe they will be bored. The 10 day itinerary has a lot fewer kids than a 7 day during March break. Our kids like it with fewer on board. We did two 7 days B2B last year and the number of families with kids was huge compared to the 10 day. You can call Princess and ask how many younger kids are booked on board - they used to give out numbers if you asked.

I can't recall exactly but I think last year on Regal there were one or two scheduled times during the cruise when the fountains were "on" for kids play. It was in the patter I think. Otherwise as the other poster said there are chairs up there or an aerobics class, and during the nightly lights show the area is chained off closed.

If you are looking at the non alcoholic drink packages, apparently the pop only package is no longer offered - only the "and more" ( more drinks, more money) which has mocktails and hot chocolate and milkshakes included. Royal has hot chocolate in the buffet "included" for everyone. Royal has NO milkshakes. (Apparently Princess can't find a blender. ). So the "and more" package is a bit different for Royal and Regal.

This thread shows the buffet. Its huge, all day, and the choices are endless! Always something yummy to try.

Hope that helps!
