sebas030 Posted February 5, 2016 #1 Share Posted February 5, 2016 We visited San Juan for the second time last week, We had nothing planned and we were thinking about just walking in the city and stop where we felt like it. We got out of the ship very early and walked straight up from the pier, we took a few pics before we reached San Cristobal Fort. The Fort is beautiful, the view from the Fort is amazing also ! We then walked along Calle Norzagaray to reach Felipe del Morro Fort. When ships are in port there is a more noticeable police presence and we always felt safe walking in San Juan. We reached the Fort and again took many beautiful pics of it and the view from it. Last time we visited that Fort there was about 100 person flying kites on the Fort's front lawn...we figured it was a holiday or something like that...but again this time !?!... about 50 or 70 person all dressed in yellow shirts flying kites...maybe this is a daily thing at the Fort ?...anyways it's beautiful ! We then walked down towards the pier, slowly, we stopped at Marshal's, at "always ,99$", Senor Frog and CVS. The town is very beautiful, I love the colors, the architecture, the calm and the people. We went back on the ship, had a quick lunch and headed back out in San Juan. We went to Starbucks, got ourselves 2 frappuccino and were given a user name and password for the "free" wi-fi with any purchase...so we used it to download news and emails. We slowly walked back towards the ship and headed back in... There is a trolley available with about 20 stops in San Juan ( hop off, hop on ) type. This would be a great way to visit the town if you don't want to walk that much or if you have mobility issues. We liked our stop in San Juan very much !!! See the castle in the background ? wantocruisemore Posted February 8, 2016 #5 Share Posted February 8, 2016 Great port review and pics. Your day sounds like what we plan, but depending on how hot, we may do bus up there. Understand its uphill walk from port to forts?
sebas030 Posted February 8, 2016 Author #6 Share Posted February 8, 2016 Great port review and pics. Your day sounds like what we plan, but depending on how hot, we may do bus up there. Understand its uphill walk from port to forts? Yes it's uphill, The part of the town where the port is is flat, then it's a constant slope to reach the other side of the Island ( where the Forts are ) and then it's flat again...so it's a small climb up to the Forts but gravity makes the way down pretty easy ;)

Crusin Karen Posted March 1, 2016 #15 Share Posted March 1, 2016 Yes it's uphill, The part of the town where the port is is flat, then it's a constant slope to reach the other side of the Island ( where the Forts are ) and then it's flat again...so it's a small climb up to the Forts but gravity makes the way down pretty easy ;) Two questions if you'd be so kind: how long is the walk and is it "hard?" Also, someone on my roll call mentioned about the trolleys from the pier to the forts and she thought she read that they are free. Is this true? THANK YOU in advance!
