Some facts about Anthem sailing 2/6/16

Considering you have 75 cruises under your belt, you have probably experience bad weather and probably some really bad weather more than once.

I am sure the people saying they felt they were going to die hand little to no cruise experience and this probably scared them for life and it will be doubtful they ever set foot on a ship again.

The captain and the company should not have sailed knowing this storm was forecasted days before and they sailed right into it. So much for risk management.

I have been on cruise critic for about 6 years now. I can't tell you how many times I have read about missed ports, itinerary changes, being kept out to sea for an extra day or 2 or a cruise starting a bit late due to unsafe, stormy conditions. Do you really think the captain or Royal Caribbean would risk putting their brand new 1 billion dollar ship and over 4 thousand passengers plus crew into conditions like that if their information showed the storm to be as bad as it turned out. Weather conditions can and do change with little to no notice. My guess is seeing that they don't put older smaller ships into these conditions on purpose, they would not do it with Anthem.

Wish we knew that they were covering hotels, because we had a heck of a time getting out or Newark on the 11th.

If they did indeed cover hotels, it wasn't made known to everyone. I found out that they were covering change fees with airlines, when I approached the front desk. Oddly there was no line up when I got there, after the announcement was made that we were arriving at 9pm.

we would have stayed in New York, if they were going to cover our hotels, as all flights out of Newark that day seemed to be oversold....

Some how I knew the real truth was out there.

I agree with some posters that many cruisers have not spent much time at sea, and expect s Disney experience on every cruise which happens 99.8 percent of the time, for for us old boats and seasoned cruisers, stuff happens at sea.

My husband and I have been saying this same thing since Monday afternoon. Thank you for posting it also. The casino was PACKED Mon. I saw/heard many freaked out passengers drinking the open bar for that hour and laughing. Gee, you must be really freaked. We were in a balcony on the 8 th floor port side. If water didn't go over my balcony it didn't go over on the 11th floor. Maybe it was the wind and the rain hitting your balcony. The list was maybe 15 not 45. Etc etc. I know everyone has their own experience, and hubby and I are the first to admit having kids stuck in a cabin with little food would have totally sucked. We had an early dinner resv so we happened to eat lunch early. Plus we could both stand to skip a meal. Just wish there were more reports in the media with the ones not as freaked out. I enjoyed my celeb status for my 15 min of fame while on board and people back home sending messages about how bad it looked etc etc. Maybe we will see the OP on a future cruise as we booked on Mon after the storm as well.

Thanks, the other typical cruise critic "BURN HER" witch mob is out in force on this anthem event.

People freaking out a lifeboat came off in the storm, claiming royal lied, its not superficial.... well, for a sea faring vessel of its size, and not losing the ship, a life boat coming off really isnt a big deal.

The over dramatization is awful. Yeah, a bad call was made, but no one predicts the weather, not even the overweight mouth stuff buffet cows that feed in these pastures on cruise critic.

Anyway, thanks for clearing it up.

I wouldnt have been too upset if I was onboard either.

That sounds like my last 2 cruises, plus losing one of the lifeboats, MINE>

The local news had a lawyer talking about suing RCCL.

I was on the Anthem of the Seas for the February 6th sailing, I have also been on over 75 cruises and I think I have some knowledge of cruising, it was bad weather the ship did rock and rock things did fly off counters, glasses breaking, we lost a full bottle of wine :( BUT there was no 4 HARROWING days at sea... news media totally blew this out of the water (pun intended) the bad weather lasted about 12 hours from 3pm Sunday afternoon to about 2:30am Monday morning...

The Captain explained the he was sailing further out to sea to avoid the storm the storm was suppose to hug the coast and the storm took a sudden turn and we ran into it.

At no time did I ever FEAR for my life, like some people said, it was rough at times but to me never life threatening. I feel bad for first time cruisers, I hope they give cruising another try because to me cruising is one of the best ways to vacation.

RCCL in my opinion did a lot for the passengers on board while we confined to our cabins for safety, all pay preview movies were free for the rest of the cruise, mini bar was free, next day open bar, full refund for this cruise and 50% off a future cruise... which we booked another cruise yesterday...AND never lost satellite connection, we were able to watch the entire Super Bowl and had internet thru the storm...and if you parked at the pier you are being refunded parking fee's

I really don't post much...BUT all the stories that I have read or saw on the news I had to say something. and to the people who claim the they are gonna file a law suit...get a life if you were at home and the weather forecasters said the the storm was gonna be here but took a turn and hit you would you file a law suit against the weather forecasters.. weather happens especially at sea.

I will be back on RCCL in 2 weeks and enjoying another great cruise, and looking forward to many more.

One of the most reasonable posts I've seen since this all started.......You will find on CC the same folks constantly B---- and moan about anything and everything, really sad....

We were also on that cruise, and I agree with you 100%.

The morning after the storm we went to the Windjammer for breakfast hoping they would at least been able to make some cereal and bread available. I was shocked to see they were ready for a normal breakfast.

I too was on the 2/6 Anthem sailing - captain and ship proved themselves - would not hesitate to sail with them again - crew was great - we stayed on til Thursday morning and enjoyed a great time! Totally agree that the media sensationalized - looking forward to our next cruise!
