ABQrobin Posted February 15, 2016 #1 Share Posted February 15, 2016 Is this worth a visit? Anyone? My hubby is a microbrewer and wants to see their place... I am not sure it is worth the time as there are so many other places to see in Juneau.

If you don't have a car- it would depend on your port time, and then spending for their shuttle. You can get there by city bus, and walking, but, clearly an option- if you have a lot of "nothing else" time in your plans. They do have a gift shop on Franklin St. downtown Juneau. ABQrobin Posted February 15, 2016 Author #3 Share Posted February 15, 2016 thanks. I am more interested in hitting some hiking trails at either Mendenhall or the Tram top, while we are in port. I'll let my hubby know that they aren't doing real tours.
Northern Aurora Posted February 15, 2016 #4 Share Posted February 15, 2016 We've been to the brewery location (as opposed to the gift shop in downtown Juneau), and I would not describe their "tours" as being an actual tour of the facility. They have a large window, you view the operation from outside the window while an employee talks about their brewing facility and operation. I've always thought the information/description was very simplistic and basic. But my husband, who is does some home brews, does think it is worth a stop to sample the brews and talk "beer" with the employees. So if you rent a car do consider a stop, particularly if it is a rainy day. But I've never thought it was worth paying the shuttle fee to visit. TheCalicoCat Posted February 15, 2016 #5 Share Posted February 15, 2016 If it were my husband, we'd go.;) (We never get to do what I want to do...) You possibly have time to do both a brewery visit & a hike...
quercus alba Posted February 17, 2016 #6 Share Posted February 17, 2016 We stopped there--but we had a local friend showing us around, who was also a former employee of the brewery. :) https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10207083639275558&l=90b06a8305 If you're a beer aficionado, then it's worth at least a stop to sample (especially because most of the ships have lousy craft beer selections!) but I wouldn't spend much time on a tour. Seen one brewery, seen them all, IMHO!

You then meet later in the day and compare notes. We visited the brewery and as others have said, it is not a tour but you do go to their tasting room and you do get to drink a good bit of beer. He will enjoy it. DON
Eaglecw Posted March 6, 2016 #8 Share Posted March 6, 2016 I’ve been to the Alaskan Brewery before, http://alaskanbeer.com/ it’s not much of a brewery, but they do let taste beer until your lips get numb. At the Alaskan Brewing company store at 219 S. Franklin http://store.alaskanbeer.com/ they have a tour that will take you out to the Brewery, if you can call that, it’s in an industrial park area. I’d rather go to the Hanger on the wharf http://www.hangaronthewharf.com/ drink beer some good Alaskan Amber and watch the small planes go and go on the water. ABQrobin Posted March 9, 2016 Author #9 Share Posted March 9, 2016 We decided to do the helicopter to hike on the glacier so I doubt we will have time to do the brewery. Thanks ...
