On board credit

Hi everyone,

I am making an inquiry for a friend who has booked a cruise on HA.

In my previous experience we were able to pre purchase OBC on a different cruise line at a much better rate of exchange than the banks etc were offering.

Can someone confirm what the current rate is on Holland American. Can you confirm that any OBC pre purchased would be at the rate in which the cruise is booked.

I truly appreciate your feedback and time taken to answer my inquiry.

Cheers,

Huggs

We are Australian not Canadian but I have sent your question to my TA.

It would seem crazy for a cruise line to do it as it obviously costs them money.

If you check the boards there was a thread on the ncl where Canadians were buying thousands of obc at a better rate (some were claiming they weren't going to use it but just cash it out). Ncl cancelled the purchases and the movement in rates cost those who had made the prepurchases. Will let you know what response I get

Any purchases you make on the Hal website are in US $ - charged to your credit card, so, if you are using a Canadian credit card, you are charged the going rate for that day.

No special rates on Hal for OBC and I am Canadian;). Sorry.

As Kazu says, any onboard or online purchases are charged in US dollars and converted to Canadian at the going rate by your CC company.

We often book cruises in Canadian dollars but we know that all our subsequent cruising costs will be factored in US dollars. There is no way around it.
