ellieocb Posted February 26, 2016 #1 Share Posted February 26, 2016 Hello , we will have a day in Rome on Holy Thursday and we are concerned about places being closed down and public transport being much reduced. Does anyone have experience of this that could help.I have checked the port guide on that day and there will be over 13,000 passengers arriving.I presume the trains will be under pressure as the average amount of visitors is around 5,000 per day.I suppose what I want to know is will it be difficult to do the journey that day. The three day period that extends from Holy Thursday to Easter Sunday is the busiest time of the year in Rome. Tens of thousands of pilgrims arrive to witness and participate in one of the most important events in the Catholic calendar. Holy Thursday: There should be no reduction whatsoever regarding public transportation and everything should be open - the city will just be more crowded than usual (if that is even imaginable). Blessing of the holy oils in Saint Peter's Basilica in the morning during a special Mass presided over by the pope - access will be limited but you will still be able to enter. What, specifically, do you wish to see/visit that you are concerned will be "closed down"? Edited February 26, 2016 by dogs4fun
ellieocb Posted February 26, 2016 Author #3 Share Posted February 26, 2016 Thank you, I am Catholic myself so I wanted to visit the Vatican and see the Sistine chapel. I think we will revisit at a later date to see everything Rome has to offer

euro cruiser Posted February 27, 2016 #6 Share Posted February 27, 2016 I went to mass at St. Peter's on Holy Thursday several years ago. We had to have tickets to get into the center area of the basilica, where there were seats, but others were allowed to walk around the edges during the mass.
