We have gone twice in mid August and it was lovely weather - really warm for Alaska- cannot comment on bears but the weather was spectacular the past two years.....toward the end of august it is getting late for salmon fishing....this year we are going in mid May so hoping for the best.

Anytime is a good time really.

eclue:rolleyes:

I live in Alaska, and your guess is as good as mine! Lol The weather forecast is often wrong here. We have had amazing weather in both July and August, and we have had nonstop rain in both months, too. I never recommend the September sailings because of storm risk, but I would say you'd probably be OK doing the 8/20 sailing; just know that you can't actually really know. We weren't even on a bear excursion in Sept once and saw a bear ... so stranger things have been known to happen. You aren't guaranteed anything except for whale watching in Icy Strait Point regardless of what month you travel. We are big fans of Sept and have had amazing weather on all but one of these cruises. We started to think that rain thing was all made up to keep those from the lower 48 from visiting too much. hahaha

We are trying August for the first time this year ... not counting on the weather or sightseeing to be any better than what we've experienced in Sept, though.

Our first trip to Alaska was in July. Did land tour first. Did see one bear from a tour bus at one port. Second time, we just did cruise in September, shortly after Labor Day. Saw no wildlife at all on land, not even one eagle! We did have better whale viewing in September. For us, it was a tad cooler in September than the July trip five years before.

The one thing we did learn the first trip, and this is very important, the wildlife will not stop and pose for photos. They are doing their own thing!

Plan on going when it is most convenient for you. Maybe you will see some, maybe not. It just can't be planned!

Have a great time!

We went in July because we really wanted to see the bears at the Anan Creek Viewing Site. It was awesome. Did a self guided land tour first, then the cruise. Saw so much wild life. Worth the extra dollars.
