Rare BecciBoo Posted February 28, 2016 #26 Share Posted February 28, 2016 You can ask for a robe, they will bring you one. Thanks again, loving your review. Beachiekeen Posted February 28, 2016 Author #27 Share Posted February 28, 2016 We left Dallas Saturday morning for Galveston and headed straight to the Spot for lunch. We had tried to eat here last year but it was a madhouse. When your drink comes in a coconut, you know you're on vacation! We took some pictures of the pleasure pier and the beach. We then drove over to the part of Galveston known as the Strand. It's closer to the pier and has all these little shops and nice hotels--unfortunately, they all have a 2-night minimum on the weekends so we opted to stay the night at the Comfort Inn in Texas City. We ended our day with drinks at the Tremont House before heading to the Comfort Inn for the night. I laid my sail away outfit out for the next morning. Tomorrow the cruise we planned 8 months ago is here!

Beachiekeen Posted February 28, 2016 Author #32 Share Posted February 28, 2016 After the free breakfast at the Comfort Inn, we left around 9:30 to head to the port. The RC terminal was much more well-marked than the Carnival terminal. We found the place to drop off our bags easily and then proceeded to check in. We were seated in the waiting area by 10:20 for a little bit of a wait and were onboard by 11:30. Hubby wanted me to see the promenade first thing. We walked around and saw the pool and Solarium (where I planned to spend a lot of my time). Some of my pictures are flawed because unbeknownst to me, I had cracked the glass of my iPhone camera in Galveston. When I realized it, I took the rest of my pictures on my Canon or hubby's iPhone. I tried to recreate them all with the camera later, but I'll include some of them since they are the only shots I have. We went up to Olive or Twist to see where our Meet & Mingle would be the next day. We loved this place and the view was beautiful. Our Carnival ship did not have any venues like this where you could have a drink and look out over the ship.

Beachiekeen Posted February 28, 2016 Author #34 Share Posted February 28, 2016 We were ready for lunch about now and since none of us wanted to endure the madhouse of the buffet, we decided to eat at Johnny Rockets. The crew had handed us 1/2 off coupons as we boarded that were only good for today so we thought that sounded good. We all ordered burgers and a basket of fries and onion rings. Hubby had really been looking forward to this but he and BFF didn't think it was that great. I thought it was fine and thought maybe since it was day one, maybe it would have been better later in the week. But we never went back. But for half price, I didn't think it was too bad. By now, it was 1:00 so we headed up to our rooms on Deck 6. BFF was in an interior overlooking the promenade just a few doors down from us. Hubby and I were in a balcony room on the center of the hump. I was so excited to have a balcony this time!

Beachiekeen Posted February 28, 2016 Author #36 Share Posted February 28, 2016 Great review so far we are also staying at the comfort inn Texas city , any thoughts good or bad We stayed there last year too and thought it was fine. It's only a 20 minute ride at most to the port, and then we just park at Park & Cruise right across the street and walk over. They have free breakfast in the morning to tide you over until lunch on the ship. It's clean with a comfortable bed. Perfectly fine for one night and for $87, you can't beat it. I have some pictures of our room last year in my Magic review in my signature.
cruising grandma Posted February 28, 2016 #37 Share Posted February 28, 2016 (edited) I like Johnny Rockets and will be looking for those coupons! Thanks! I have a promenade on deck six first week, then move to an inside on deck six the following week. Did your friend hear any noise in his cabin from the promenade? Beachiekeen Posted February 28, 2016 Author #38 Share Posted February 28, 2016 More room pictures. I thought our room was very similar to the one we had on Carnival last year in a lot of ways. I always hear people complain about the closets, but I haven't found them to be too small at all. We even fit our gigantic suitcase in there. That's a very good question and I'll ask him. Hubby and I thought at some points he must have but he never said anything to us. When we were checking out his room, we could actually wave to the people directly across the promenade. I thought it was a nice room for an inside room though. Beachiekeen Posted February 28, 2016 Author #42 Share Posted February 28, 2016 We didn't have luggage yet of course so after checking out our digs, we continued our tour of the ship, seeing the casino next. Next we went and saw the gym and spa. The sauna and steam room are located in the gym and are open from 8 am-8pm. They can be used free of charge. I used it twice. I know this gets asked a lot so feel free to use it all you want. There is also a bathroom, but only 1.
Beachiekeen Posted February 28, 2016 Author #43 Share Posted February 28, 2016 (edited) More steam room pics. We didn't tour the actual spa itself where you get treatments. Next we went down to see the water slides. The much maligned Tidal Wave is not operational and they don't know when it will be. Frankly, it looks very dangerous to me as is. It's hard to get a picture of the entire thing. Flowrider: I'll continue later today or tomorrow. Edited February 28, 2016 by Beachiekeen

I appreciate your balcony picture because I was wondering if they upgraded the balcony tables during dry dock. Sadly, no :( Your anchor tee shirt is cute!
