saltydog77 Posted March 10, 2016 #26 Share Posted March 10, 2016 Nothing I'd do differently or feel I missed out on! It really is a fabulous ship. Check EVERYTHING out the first day, stern to bow on each deck (unless it's all cabins) to make sure you see all that it offers. Hi I wonder if you might be able to help me we sail on the breakaway on the 3rd April . Which will be the best place to get a taxi to Penn station when we have completed our cruise. Boatingmom Posted March 10, 2016 Author #27 Share Posted March 10, 2016 I haven't done it yet but there should be taxis right there when you get off the ship. After that it is only a short ride - a couple of blocks to Penn Station. If I remember, I'll post it after I do it & hail a cab to Penn when I return. maryisme Posted March 10, 2016 #28 Share Posted March 10, 2016 (edited) Skip Cagny's the second time and go to Teppanyaki instead. not that Cagny's wasn't good but we enjoyed Teppanyaki more. We did this also- agree! Want to add - Lobster roll and hot dog cart. Shows in atrium, while crowded as all hell, were fun! maryisme Posted March 10, 2016 #29 Share Posted March 10, 2016 Hi I wonder if you might be able to help me we sail on the breakaway on the 3rd April . Which will be the best place to get a taxi to Penn station when we have completed our cruise. We did self walk off - 7:45am and simply walked across the street upon exiting the terminal. At that hour, there weren't any lines. Was very easy. Enjoy your cruise!

When I asked the price he said $50. Since I paid $15 including tip from Penn Station to the pier I told him where he can go without me.
mcsb11 Posted March 10, 2016 #31 Share Posted March 10, 2016 Some more nuggets of info... Don't fret if you can get Vibe and want quiet. Spiceh20 is relatively quiet. Look for Asian day on the buffet. It was better than any other Don't waste $$ on sundaes at osheeahans. Just get ice cream from the buffet. if you or your significant other want to smoke a 'gar, bring them on board. Don't buy on the ship Avoid the front of the ship around showtime The gelato is quite good. Carlos is garbage Teppanyaki was one of my favorite meals. Now that it's free, I plan on eating lunch there more often when I go back this summer If you like sushi... and I mean if you really like sushi and have a high barometer for sushi, don't waste your time at the sushi place. I glanced over the sashimi and could very quickly gauge the quality of it. Mind you... if Costco sushi is your thing, or you enjoy a lot of jazzed up sushi rolls when you go for hibachi or something else, this could be right up your alley. If you want to go to an event in the atrium, GET THERE EARLY. This is a big flaw in this ship IMO. They discounted the amount of people who would want to play games, see atrium shows, etc. If it's a popular show, it's mobbed Don't use the wine vending machines. I had a fun experience dealing with this. There's now signs on the machine, which I'd like to think are in my honor, after a long drawn out process fighting charges Double up any app order at Osheehans. theyre light portions Go on the waterslides and ropes courses early on in the cruise. The line gets bad at the end. That's about all I got.... between this and my early post, that's all my nuggets of info
RN Cruiser1 Posted March 10, 2016 #32 Share Posted March 10, 2016 Here are my Breakaway specific must do's (been on Breakaway 2X) 1) Lobster roll at the seafood window only open between 12 noon and 2 pm on sea days 2)Howl at the Moon (dueling piano bar, free, no reservations) 3)Uptown Cafe for a burger and breakfast Calamari at the same window is divine, cost is 4.75 Lobster Roll is 9.75. We did Margarita tastings at The Sunset bar, about $15 pp. Lots and lots of Tequila passed :D Toasted Almond is a great "dessert" drink. Yummy. Enjoy! is the best advice, expect to have fun and you won't be disappointed. It is what you make it!

Which will be the best place to get a taxi to Penn station when we have completed our cruise. Download a taxi hailing app. You can request one while after you clear customs and they will wait for you at the port. Usually takes 10 minutes. cyndepet Posted March 12, 2016 #38 Share Posted March 12, 2016 Where is the outdoor seafood shack? Is it free & what kind of things do they serve? Same for ocean blue raw bar, where is that & is there a cover charge? Love seafood, so these are intriguing! We are onboard right now, and Ocean Blue restaurant was one of the best meals we had this trip. The Dover sole was phenomenal!

Jezo Posted March 13, 2016 #42 Share Posted March 13, 2016 When making a reservation at one of the upsell joints can you request to get a seat on The Waterfront and wait extra if you want to be able to sit outside or is it all just luck?
luvtheships Posted March 13, 2016 #43 Share Posted March 13, 2016 I would grab a self made cheese platter from the buffet around 8/9 pm. Grab a nice quite window table and go to the wine tasting by the glass vending machine and make my own wine tasting. 1/4. 1/2. 3/4 or full glasses. Many varieties to choose. I'm not a wine enthusiast nor care to be....so this would just be for fun and relaxation period. The buffet on the ba is on the more elegant side and quite nice at 9 pm. Almost like a lounge. They should have a piano player there IMHO
Gershep Posted March 13, 2016 #44 Share Posted March 13, 2016 how hard is it for someone to take your pic while you are walking the plank vs spending who knows what for their shot? I was able to take pictures from the ground of family members walking the plank, they came out great. If you like beer and don't have the UBP buy the beer buckets. You pay for 5 but get 6 bottles. Better deal than buying them one at a time. FYI beer buckets are not part of UBP.

Smurfette27 Posted March 14, 2016 #46 Share Posted March 14, 2016 dare i ask how much? $30... just got off yesterday. The picture was very blurry as it has spray/salt from the ocean so we didn't get it for that price. I took one of my daughter from the mini golf course. The zip line picture (right after the plank) is a much better shot with no spray / salt on the camera lens.
mcsb11 Posted March 14, 2016 #47 Share Posted March 14, 2016 When making a reservation at one of the upsell joints can you request to get a seat on The Waterfront and wait extra if you want to be able to sit outside or is it all just luck? As of 2014 you couldn't. I was incredibly worried about this on my cruise. I kept asking people and they insisted on telling me not to worry about it. They were right. We ate on the waterfront about 10 times in a week. Only one time was there more than one other table outside with us. And yes, at last check the ice cream was an upsell at osheehans I also misspoke before. I meant to say the Noodle Bar is free, not Teppanyaki. TraJon9 Posted March 14, 2016 #50 Share Posted March 14, 2016 Hi I wonder if you might be able to help me we sail on the breakaway on the 3rd April . Which will be the best place to get a taxi to Penn station when we have completed our cruise. They will send you across the street to catch a cab BUT last time leaving NY we used a porter to get us through customs quickly. Best 20 bucks ever for learning this. As you exit the doors of customs he made a left to elevators. Available to anyone, took it upstairs where the cabs are dropping off the new cruisers. Hopped in cab and off we went.. No wait.
