Raxter54 Posted March 10, 2016 #1 Share Posted March 10, 2016 So, our first cruise was out of NOLA going to Jamaica/Cayman Is/Cozumel. This year we took the Carnival Dream to Roatan/Belize/Cozumel. Next year we're going east, doing the Key West/Freeport/Nassau route on the Carnival Freedom out of Galveston. Anyone have suggestions on what to do at these ports, excursions to take, excursions to avoid, should we just stay on the ship at certain ports, are Bahamian's as aggressive as Jamaicans? Just curious....
Rare CruisinCrow Posted March 10, 2016 #2 Share Posted March 10, 2016 The vendors around the port in Nassau are aggressive. We've never had a problem away from the port area. Just say no thank you, and keep walking. :) It would help people make recommendations if you told us what hours you're in port and what you're interested in doing/seeing. Key West 10-6, Freeport 8-5, Nassau 7-5. My wife likes shopping and relaxing on the beach, I love snorkeling. And if there is any snorkeling on this cruise that could rival the snorkeling at Tabyana Beach on Roatan, I am so there :-)
Rare Keith1010 Posted March 10, 2016 #4 Share Posted March 10, 2016 Key West is very easy to do on your own. You can easily walk the town which is fun. Nice place to consider having lunch and or a drink. We like to visit the Little White House which President Harry Truman used as a vacation home and the Hemingway House. Rare CruisinCrow Posted March 10, 2016 #5 Share Posted March 10, 2016 That's a nice itinerary - lots of time in each port. For Key West, definitely have lunch somewhere in town. There's so much great food in Key West. We love Garbo's Grill - it's just a little lunch cart with the most amazing tacos and very affordable too. Agree with Keith1010 that Key West is easy to walk or you could also take the hop-on-hop-off trolley. Hemingway's House is interesting and so is the lighthouse. Nassau would be a nice beach day. Look into getting a day pass at one of the hotels. Or maybe go to Blue Lagoon, a beautiful private island with a 30-minute ferry ride each way. Sorry, I haven't been to Freeport in 25 years so I don't have any suggestions there.
arkiesgirl Posted March 10, 2016 #6 Share Posted March 10, 2016 We booked a jeep excursion through Carnival for Freeport and thoroughly enjoyed it. We saw parts of the island that we wouldn't have seen otherwise. In Nassau, my husband went scuba diving on one trip, on another we just walked around and visited the forts and had lunch at Twin Brothers. There's plenty of shopping there too. I can't comment on Key West but I look forward to going.

MRVEGAS711 Posted March 13, 2016 #8 Share Posted March 13, 2016 Key West is a great walking / shopping / eating / drinking city. With emphasis on the drinking!! The best conch fritters in the world at the Conch Shack on Duval.
fossilcreekranch Posted March 21, 2016 #9 Share Posted March 21, 2016 By far, one of the funnest excursions ever was the Key West Pub Crawl! Had a blast, part walking tour, part drinking tour. Met lots of people and had LOTS of rum. Made it back to the ship in one piece, slept it off, and was ready for dinner!
