False Advertising - Majesty of the Seas

This is not in the same category, but reminds me of Celebrity's false advertising when showing a photo of the new AQ stateroom as being added on one of the older ships. An extra deck was added featuring these staterooms. We had been in these staterooms on the newer Solstice class and loved them, so we booked one on the older Constellation ship...on the new deck. When we boarded and opened the door to our stateroom, we were shocked! Yes, the staterooms were newer, but they were the same smaller type, same layout, and same decor as the older staterooms on the ship. :( We were most excited about the new bathroom layout that turned out to not be on that ship.

..also, didn't they cancel the splashdown addition already?

Sorry your family experienced this.

We're booked on MotS for the first sailing out of drydock. I swear to titan if everything is not what was advertised, I'm going to lose it, lol.

I think they cancelled adding slides. Splash away bay is still being added. Not 100%. But I do believe this is what's happening.

Do you think they are still adding specialty restaurants?

I think a quick question to RCI or whoever you booked with could have told you when dry dock was. Upgrades at dry dock seemed very important to you so I would have checked. Also if you are a regular reader of Cruise Critic I'm sure Majesty has been mentioned a number of times and that would have answered your question. No, I don't think compensation is warranted - if for you would have to be for everyone on that sailing and there doesn't seem to be an outcry on CC.

Youve got to be kidding

I can't blame Squadron- he may be suffering from Stockholm syndrome- (where captives start to love their captors) we've become so accustomed to misinformation from Royal Caribbean on their website that one might believe each passenger must call and check every detail advertised to find out if it's true...or if it's not. Of course when you call you'll get a different answer from each person you speak to! :p

OP, I can see this happening to nearly every cruising friend I have who doesn't obsess over cruising like me- they would go online, book the cruise, then show up with a toddler in floaties looking for the water slide they promised, and it would be a very sad scene.:( I dont think Royal is trying to "fool" people, but no fooling, you can't be this disorganized in your web presence without people starting to expect you to either fix it quickly, or expecting compensation for services not delivered.

Bob,

I just searched for the old press release (July 2015) which said

* free VOOM - not anymore

* new slides - not anymore

* Splashaway Bay - still on the deckplans

* poolside movie screen - still on the deckplans

* enlarged casino - seems to be still on

* Dreamworks - nothing on the website anymore

* new specialty restaurants (Sabor, Izumi, Chef´s Table) - not anymore at least not Sabor and Izumi (Johnny Rockets, Compass Deli are still mentioned on the website), maybe Chef´s Table

* new excluise suite service - that may still come...

Seems like a lot of cut downs since they´ve announced the Majesty will stay in the fleet and will be renovated...

Thanks for the support everyone. I was fully expecting to catch some heat on this but glad to see all agree. I really hope no one else gets spurned by this because it is truly a shame. All RCCL needs to do is pull that language to avoid any future misleads.

Agree. If the website said all these feature were "coming soon," it would be fine, but with it saying that the ship has all these new features, it is clearly misleading.

But this thread is a good example that people here, for the most part, are not really against any criticism of Royal Caribbean. That's a myth that I try to dispel any chance I get. Sure, you had one person on here who seemed to think it was your friends' fault for not calling RCI to double check that the features their website claims are on the ship really are there. But that's one out of all the people who've responded. Many times, what happens is that you get those one or two responses like that, and people focus so much energy on them, that the impression starts to emerge that those responses are somehow typical of the forum.

Hope your friends made the most of it and had a good time, though, even with the disappointment that the ship wasn't yet upgraded as advertised.
