What is your favorite ship feature that makes you Disney cruise "uniquely Disney"?

 

That's a tough one, but I'd have to say the shows in the Walt Disney Theater. And to take the reverse view, what is the one feature that DCL doesn't have that makes in uniquely Disney is no casino.

DCL has the most attractive ships, inside and out. While I don't always agree with their design choices (or re-imaginings) they have great attention to detail and always that touch of whimsy. They aren't afraid to use color. Ships that are white outside and beige inside are boring!

 

Casino can be a mixed blessing. On some lines, the casino is such that you have to go near or thru it to get anywhere. That is a pain. On other lines/ships, it is located such that you don't go near it if you don't want to go there. That's good. All those people who want the casino are not hanging out in the areas where I want to be! I was one of those "hate the casino" or more "Love that Disney doesn't have a casino" till I went on the Caribbean Princess. I found that it wasn't an issue. I only went to the casino when it was our designated muster station....after that, no where near it. But the people in the casino weren't in the pools, fitness center, etc. leaving more space for me.

One of the things I enjoy on a Disney Cruise Line ship is the "Art of the Theme Show Tour"' which is offered on sea days. I last took this tour in May, 2015 on a transatlantic cruise. The title is a bit confusing, but it is a ship's tour which highlights architectural details, design, imagery, and art themes on the ship. Disney's attention to architectural detail and theme is just amazing on all of the Disney ships, and, it's not the same theme (Art Deco v Art Nuevo, for example). So, thats a long way to say, there isn't one specific thing I find unique on a Disney ship, it is the overall ambiance, theme and architectural that brings everything together in a unique way that I find attractive, and, inspiring in its own way. All of that carries over to the overall experience, and why we lean towards Disney Cruise Lines for the majority of our cruising. I apologize for my non-specific answer, and hope this is nonetheless a helpful response. I do agree with gometros that the Walt Disney Theatre is a big highlight, both its design as well as the productions on the stage.

Listening to music from the Disney songbook in the hallways before the ship fully wakes up in the morning is pretty nice. Too bad quiet moments are few and far between.

That's an interesting comment about Art of the Theme Show tour. We did a tour of the Walt Disney Theater and backstage areas once and I thought that's what this is. But it sounds like so much more. Will definitely have to revisit this on our next cruise.

Gometros - yes, The Art Od The Theme Show tour encompasses the entire ship and is different than the tour of the Walt Disney Theatre and backstage. I have done both. I did enjoy the Theatre tour and it is amazing that they get as much done behind the scene as they do. The "Art" show points out finer architectural details around the entire ship - for example the difference in deck height between decks 3, 4 and 5 differentiating grand common areas from the areas reserved for kids. Theoretically (or at least it sounds good!) that is for a reason. And the Venetian poles in Palo, etc.

I think the Mid-Ship detective agency on Dream class is pretty unique.

 

Attention to detail is huge

 

Much fewer public announcements to go to the art auction, inch of gold sale, etc as I see on other lines

 

No casino for me is big because it equates to less smoking which I am sensitive too. Many ships with casinos you have to cut through it eventually to get somewhere, or the smoke lingers out from the casino.

 

The overall style of the ships is a nice blend of old ship design but done in a modern way.

 

The concept of rotating dining rooms and having the wait staff rotate with you.

 

The general aim to accommodate you.

 

The split bathroom design.

 

One of the few lines who has standard balcony cabins that can accommodate a family of 5 without buying a suite.
