wuppis Posted March 28, 2016 #1 Share Posted March 28, 2016 Hi, just back from the Azamara Journey and wanted to tell you about the nice AZAmazingEvening, we had in St. Maarten. We left St. Barts earlier and arrived St. Maarten fast than the SpeedFerry (Captain Magnuss proudly told us when he bid us a welcome for the AZEvening. We were excorted to the pier by decks, starting with deck 8. In front of the stairs at the pier with the St. Maarten sign, a stage was built up. A huge group of children and teenagers were playing the steel drums, young dancers in caribbean costumes were dancing until everybody had a seat on white gardenchairs. Tony and Captain Magnus bid us the welcome, the band was playing and the electrical string band entered the stage and we had a wonderful time. At the end, an unexpected firework started and after that we wented back to the ship, where the BigBand was playing at the entrance. We were told to get to the Living Room, where they served Cherrys Jubilee. Unfortunately they did not know, that so many people where joining and had not enough extra seats. One of the male singers, a handsome guy from Argentina, Marcus, had his own appereance for about half a hour, together with the Big Band. it was really a nice evening, not to compare with our last one in Liverpool, but for the Caribbean with this special tropical feeling. amarillocruisecat Posted March 28, 2016 #3 Share Posted March 28, 2016 Curious as to how the stop at St Barts went. Just started reading some of the threads on the St Bart forum and seem to be very mixed reviews. petern6827 Posted March 29, 2016 #6 Share Posted March 29, 2016 We were there, too. Being first timers we were very impressed. (For perspective, recent cruises were aboard the Seabourn Legend and Celebrity Xpedition) Highlights of this evening: A dash from St Barts to St Martens (yahoo!)... a short walk to a professional stage set-up at the end of the pier..tropical drinks.. stilt dancers.. a 20+ piece steel band fronted by dynamic youngsters..a Caribbean-style string quartet.. fireworks rivaling July 4th in Boston (ok ..almost rivaling)...champagne served on the walk back to the ship...the Journey band serenading us on the pier (the band was terrific btw)...then a superb night club style performance by Marcus French, an Argentinian heartthrob/Frank Sinatra, in the Living Room...and then some disco afterwards. Oh, what a night!
petern6827 Posted March 29, 2016 #7 Share Posted March 29, 2016 You veteran Azamarians may take it for granted, but for a newbie (who has been to a few rodeos and a county fair!)...this was a wonderful evening! Highlights: The transformation of the pool deck to a spectacular 'party room'..the great food...the Captains remarks.. the crew parade... the dancers ( the Journey dancers gave us many "WOW" moments during the cruise)... the four singers backed by that sensational band that compelled to 'dance the night away'! Thank you Azamara! (As you may surmise...we're hooked.)

The food was diverse and plentiful and we had a great evening dancing away! Agree with Wuppis (hi!) about the Amazing Evening. We did go back to our stateroom early and had a front row view of the fireworks. They do special things I do not see on other cruise lines.
