Questions regarding Self-Assist luggage process

Apologies if this has already been covered elsewhere!

I am sailing on the Liberty of the Seas, April 24th/16.

Just wondering if there are many stairs to navigate if you opt for the Self-Assist Program? What time and where should you be lining up if you are Platinum?

Thanks.

Our experience is that there are times when stairs are used.

You will receive a letter in your stateroom entitled "As You Depart" which will have details with regard to time and place to meet.

The self assist cruisers were divided by where your stateroom was. We were forward so we met in the theater on deck 4. I can't recall where the aft rooms met.

You must be able to carry all your bags. The escalators in the terminal were working, but you must be able to put one hand on a hand rail on the escalator and no strollers or such are allowed.

C&A status is irrelevant for self disembark.

stairs are cramped/narrow and the escalators are not always 'on'

Last November, while getting off the Brilliance of the Seas, disembarkation was delayed due to customs delay. The "Line Police" were trying to keep us all in line and going in the correct directions. One came through and asked if there were any Diamond or higher people standing in line. The person behind us was Diamond and responded. The "Line Police" person asked if they had made arrangements with the Loyalty Ambassador for easy disembarkation and the answer was "no." They were told that next time to speak to the Loyalty Ambassador and they would receive priority disembarkation. Don't know if it is true but that is what they were told. I will be Diamond this August and I am going to check it out.

On our last cruise out of Galveston they had two groups for self assist--we were in group B and were to meet by the MDR on Deck 4--they called us about 7:15. However, the line had gotten fairly long, so we were sent to line up outside on deck 4, Once you enter the cruise terminal, there were escalators, and if you did not have at least one hand free, they directed you to the elevator. Once you got down to the lower level of the terminal, the line to get through customs was also a long, snaky process of dragging your bags.

That said, my friends two aunts were traveling with us, and they are both in their 80's and managed just fine--but do prepared to do quite a bit of walking with those bags to get through the terminal and curbside.....

Off Enchantment last Friday, wait area was the theatre, they stated a 7:20 to 8:30 self depart window. We walked towards the theatre and saw a line going to brow with a crew member, asked him it was self-disembark, he looked at my set sail and said to join him. I don't know if they separated by class in the theatre or not. We were off the ship at 7:20 and in the car headed home at 7:45.

About the same on Enchantment and Liberty, always in the car by 8:00AM driving.

When the Brilliance is in Tampa they have a meeting place in the dining room for Platinum and above for self assist.

usually that just means an earlier number on normal debarkation. Suites and Pinnacles will be escorted down directly to the terminal without having to go through the long line on board/fighting the stairs and elevators. the Concierge has a key to lock off an elevator( or uses a crew one) for exclusive use and you will end up directly behind the self disembark stragglers

self disembark is first come first served usually.
