Well first time on ncl coming from carnival and my last cruise with them I was offered upgrade from bacony to suite for a few hundred a person.

Ncl contacted me for my upcoming cruise thru email with an offer of 700 per person min. for the same type upgrade

That's gotta be reg price. Why bother sending out and getting people excited to see the headline before they open it up.

Suites on carnival are NOTHING like suites NCL offers. Can't compare. Basically a suite on carnival is for extra space and priority boarding. Ncl suites offer much much more including a butler. Carnival doesn't come close with suites.

If the offer was to a true suite (S or H category), I can tell you that it is *not* the same type upgrade as Carnival. That's because Carnival has nothing that compares to NCL's Suite Life.

That said, keep asking, the price may go down. We ended up with a $1000 total ($333pp) upgrade from Large Balcony to Penthouse Suite on the PoA and it was utterly fantastic.

The worst part was that it spoiled us so bad that I booked the Haven outright for our next cruise, rather than wait for an upsell.

Pearl to Alaska. Just said 750 to 2500 pp h categories were 1500 to 2500pp. Also I an currently in a mini suite not bacolny

Do you understand the difference in suites from carnival to NCL? I have been in a suite on carnival (grand suite) no comparison. It's a great room dont get me wrong but the perks are very different with each line.

Mini suite does not get the Haven treatment that a true suite gets. A suite on Carnival, or most other major lines for that matter, can't compare. The Haven amenities are amazing. You are getting way more than a bigger room.

Sounds very nice. Like I stated never been on ncl so I do not know what they offer. Sounds good but way out of my price range. Just wishful thinking on my part at those prices. But I guess if you can afford it it would be nice. My daughter is graduating college so we are going on a once in a life cruise( one for us mid income people that is) to celebrate so trying to make it as nice as I can. But I can't do those prices. Would like a bigger room thou for four of us. Do they offer any in-between upgrades like bigger then a mini suite. But smaller then those 1000 plus pp rooms

It's worth it to try to negotiate a little. Honestly. I get the point about Carnival being cheaper, but if it's only the price for the persons 1 and 2, if you can bring them down to maybe $500 pp could you swing it?

Here's the breakdown of benefits for suites:

NCL:

precruise concierge service for assistance in booking dining, spa and excursions

exclusive suite lounge/area with priority check in and boarding

larger guest room (depending on what type, from twice the normal stateroom size all the way up to 5k square feet (garden villa)

private restaurant for breakfast and lunch for all suite guests (cagneys, I think)

24 hour butler service

daily deliveries of afternoon "treats"

a fruit bowl that is replenished upon consumption

a bottle of sparkling wine/champagne

custom selection of liquor (only for owner's suites and above)

priority debarkation at ports of call (you cut all the lines)

reserved suite seating in the theater for shows

a VIP captain's party

priority disembarkation (even if you dont carry your own off)

and if it's a Haven suite:

use of the Haven courtyard (hot tub, pool, workout room sauna, courtyard valet who can serve you drinks/breakfast/lunch by the pool)

use of the Haven sundeck (which for Alaska would be AHHHMAAAZING)

Carnival:

priority boarding

bigger room

The only Haven amenity is the access to Haven. All other suite perks are the same even if the suite (categories starting with S) is not a Haven suite (categories starting with H).

The mini suite will have more space and a bigger bathroom that will be helpful with 4 people. You were offered a $1500 upgrade. Call get details and decide if it works for your family as you'll likely have bedrooms and not just beds and possibly another bathroom. Note that gratuities are more for suite guests and most budget to tip the butler that is part of your suite package.

Last summer I had a promotion for a complimentary inside. I spent over $600 to upgrade to a balcony which was the better cabin for our family of three on a week long cruise.

Suites are not for everybody. And I respect that. I have friends who are well off and they just need a bed and a shower. THEY do not want to pay more in gratuities OR DSC.

Even if some people could swing the cost, be it upsell or booking outright, there are gratuities and a higher DSC.

And some people are uncomfortable with the whole butler and concierge element. Although, those can be minimized.

Some people would rather go all out on excursions or extended stays in port cities.

But, it is great to try the NCL suite life to see if it gives YOU value. I know it does for me.

I said the MINI suite, which DOES NOT have access to any of the Haven or true suite amenities.

We received the email just before boarding two weeks ago. $750pp extra got us the grand suite on the POA. An amazing experience and one I would do again in a heartbeat.

I've never found anything called a Grand Suite on any NCL ship. What cabin would that have been. POA doesn't even have an Garden Villa, so the only high level suites are the DOS and OS. Could it have been one of those???

NCL Pearl Suites:

https://www.ncl.com/cruise-ship/pearl/detail

We sailed both Carnival and NCL and there is no comparison when it comes to the suites.

If you're happy with your cabin, use that money toward excursions. They can be higher than cruises in the Caribbean.

Enjoy your Alaska adventure. It is a wonderful trip.

Yes, but you also said that "Haven treatments that a true suite gets" which is inaccurate - there are plenty of "true suites" that don't have access to Haven but get all other suite perks.

I've had my best suite experience on a ship that does not have Haven at all (Dawn).

A mini-suite IS a balcony just with a larger bathroom

There are more differences than just the bathroom between balcony cabins and mini-suites on Dawn class and Jewel class ships.

P.S. We're still waiting for you to tell us how anyone can get 20% discounts directly from NCL as you are so eager to tell people that they should never use TAs.

I queried an upgrade from our Mini-suite to a haven 2 bedroom suite (as there are 3 of us going) on our upcoming 7 nighter abard Epic and was quoted £4500!

Upselling at decent rates isn't usually available to UK bookers, but I thought I would try it. Ho hum, Mini-suite it is then.

Many suites aren't much bigger than the balcony cabins. I think that most people book suites for the perks, not for the bigger room.

You can book through the US although recently a lot of EU trips the UK has been cheaper.

Yes, I did that for our last cruise on RCCL but there was $1.7 to the £ at the time of booking. With there now being $1.4 to the £ it was much more expensive doing it this way around.

Booking in UK does have some advantages (mainly that the "free" perks are actually "free" - no 18% to pay), and it was a good few hundred cheaper this time around.

I always look to see which side of the Atlantic has the best booking deal - upsell wasn't something I had actually considered when I booked.
