Balcony Smokers on Allure

Recommended Posts

And as for the people that want to state the "rules". Is it only on a cruise you wish to police everyone. Are you stating you never break any rules. Are you saying you never go above the posted speed limit when driving, which is an actual law. People need to stop acting like they are perfect. EVERYONE breaks rules at one point or another.

I can only speculate the other activities you mentioned are common in LA, CA.

It never surprises me what nonsense some people will post here when they don't agree with what has been posted by someone.

Quite true. For example, one might insult the entire population of Los Angeles because he/or she disagrees with the notion that counting balcony smokers and posting about on the web is more than a casual observation.

Guest services has a list of smoking complaints from neighboring balconies and they will fine you for the first offense, second offense off the ship. Ships should not sell cigarettes and any bought on board should be confiscated by security at check in.

This has got to be the craziest statement I have ever heard.

Maybe you have been drinking to much Champagne123.Security did not catch anyone smoking. And security got tired of his crying about smoke, and moved him and his mother.:pWhich is the same thing that will happen to you if you spend your time on board crying to security. :)

I'm not really chiming in on the smoking issue, but I read Gambee's review too. He was saying it was constant and causing them some health issues. He even said he personally spoke to them and they started after his mom. That's not cool. She looks elderly to me and it's not ok to go after an elderly woman like that even if you're upset. I wouldn't want to deal with that on a daily basis either. And while not having personally met him, just from his reviews he seems like a nice, polite guy. Not trying to start a fight with you by any means, just thought saying that about someone not on this thread, even if it was mentioned, well not ok.

It's quite easy to make a casual observation when in Cozumel of what is happening on the balconies of the ship beside yours especially if that ship is already docked and particularly for smoking which tends to stand out as it shouldn't be done. This was very obvious from what the OP said and most people who have balcony are on these when going into or sometime while in port.

I can't speak for California, but I know at least one of the activities is common in Louisiana!

Go to a hospital where people are dying from lung cancer or the myriad of other illnesses smoking causes and tell them that.

Add to that the drain on health resources, higher medical premiums and it makes sense to ban smoking on cruises and all public places.

The argument that "everybody does it" won't hold up in court.

Smoking habits have changed over the years and is now banned in more places than ever.

So.

Even though I have other "rule breaking" habits, does not sanction me to move on and break this rule and any other I so do please.

RCI just needs to enforce this policy and once the word gets out people might comply.

Just saying.

Frankly, I don't care what people do if it does not impact me. And "in the real world" I have better things to do than monitor others. I'm sure I am not perfect either.

But if I pay hard earned money for a smoke free balcony, that is what I expect.

Tell me why I should settle for less? Or tell me why I shouldn't inform guest services if there is an issue?

I hate smoking, it's a nasty habit and it stinks.

That being said, realistically how is it any more dangerous to smoke on your balcony vs 2-3 floors up leaning over the same edge? Either way ash could fall and catch the edge of the ship. People use this as reasonings but I fail to see how it is any different.

Same with the casino. How is it safer to smoke in the casino. Ash could still fall and catch something on fire.

Point being that someone smoking can cause a fire no matter where they are smoking. And acting like its so much more dangerous being on their private balcony makes no sense.

I agree with you and that's why smoking needs to be banned from any area in the cruise ship with cigarettes confiscated at check in.

If you want to write laws, run for congress. But until somebody votes to give you the power to govern their behavior, suggest you stop trying to do so.

Confiscate peoples cigarettes when they are allowed to smoke in certain areas of the ship? That's ridiculous and makes absolutely zero sense.

I should have added that smoking should be banned completely on cruises and any public place whether open air or not.

Because this is a forum, and I'm participating in it, so I can comment on whatever I choose. I'm waiting for someone to tell me why I have to compromise on paying for a smoke free balcony.

This is not "real world". This is an internet discussion forum about cruising. I don't walk around the supermarket, gas station, clothing store, etc., questioning people or telling them what to do. if it doesn't impact me, there's nothing to say.

FTR - I think confiscating cigarettes and banning it entirely on the ship is bonkers and unrealistic.

I just think smokers should stick to designated areas that have ashtrays (for safety) and so that those that don't want to smell the smoke know not to go to that area. And no interior smoking unless it is an enclosed smoking lounge with its own air handling system.

A half smoking casino is like a peeing corner of a pool.

Yes, it's a forum , but you are still monitoring someone's else's behavior, namely the OPs. Watching someone smoke on another ship balcony or watching what someone posts on a forum. Same concept.

I don't have to go to a hospital - I know the statistics - HOWEVER - because there are smoking areas provided on a ship for those who do smoke, confiscating their cigarettes upon boarding is a crazy idea. And as someone else pointed out - until anyone has the power to enforce this, people will continue - as long as they obey the rules it shouldnt be anyone elses business.

No one would be allowed to bring a weapon aboard to use at "designated" shooting areas. Cigarettes are a dangerous weapon, killing more people than guns.

No, that post was directed at only one person only and it again amazes me what other can come with to counter posts on passengers' action that not only are against the ship's rules but are dangerous, harmful and inconsiderate to others but then again with smoking we are dealing with an addiction aren't we.

IMO, that post was really more of an attack to ridicule the OP than an opinion. Mine was just a bit of pay back. ;)

I was on the Vision in March and I met someone that had a warning about smoking on the balcony and then DID get a charge of $250 on her sea pass card.

She left her cig butts on the balcony.

No passenger turned her in.

The cabin steward did.

She asked and they told her how they knew.

I think smoking on balcony is annoying , but basically a fire hazard. I smoke and have no problem using the smoking areas.

After the Star Princess fire, material used on a ship's balcony was changed industry wide and is no longer flammable.

Well the canvas covers on the lifeboats just below Majesty balconies seemed flammable and had marks in the one; which means that more than likely ashes could get in and not seen and those boats are fueled. Needless say I turned someone in and nothing happened. I wonder if there is a culture via group services on who they write up and don't. Just a hunch!
