tomko2 Posted April 22, 2016 #2 Share Posted April 22, 2016 You need to provide a bit more information so you can receive relevant feedback, e.g. how long a cruise, are you interested in beaches, cultural tours, etc. Also, what is your age bracket and your likes and dislikes with respect to music, activities, food, etc. In any event, you will get lots of good information on this website so Welcome to Cruise Critic and hopefully, Welcome to cruising. Nic6318 Posted April 23, 2016 #5 Share Posted April 23, 2016 Well a 7 day cruise to the Caribbean and me and my fiancée are 28 and we aren't huge drinkers but we do like to have fun just looking for a fun week away Sent from my iPhone using Forums mobile app Hi there You are still not clear enough in what you are asking. Are you aware that the NCL Breakaway sails out of New York? If you looked you would find that this October 2nd.,9th, 16th., and 23rd it goes to Bermuda. all 7 day cruises. It is still very nice there early October. Very Nice choices. If this was something you would consider be sure to check up the Bermuda threads on this website. Oct. 30th the ship goes to the Bahamas with a stop at Cape Canaveral. Also a nice trip, depending on what you are looking for. ( not the Caribbean ) So are you looking for the Caribbean, or specifically the Breakaway, or NCL? If you looked at NCL in October there are a couple of dozen ships going to the Caribbean. Whereas if you didn't have a specific cruiseline as a preference there are likely a couple of hundred cruises going to the Caribbean given all the departure port. If you can try to do some research to decide what you are looking for. For instance if you have determined New York as your departure port (because of convenience) and month then you have whittled down the choices considerably. Deciding where you want to go creates parameters that eliminate other etc. If you feel it is too much effort you can always try to find a good travel agent (ask friends) and see what they can suggest for you. Once you have a more concrete starting point you could come back to ask opinions on this site or to research your port of calls. Start now because it isn't early to be booking for October (don't know if you will have to fly). Some people are preparing a year or more in advance. good luck in your search

SPacificbound Posted April 23, 2016 #7 Share Posted April 23, 2016 I suggest you go to the NCL section of CC and ask NCL cruisers your questions for better answers. http://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?f=
Bonnie J. Posted April 23, 2016 #8 Share Posted April 23, 2016 (edited) Also check out Royal Caribbean (RCCL). They sail from Port Canaveral as well as Miami or Fort Lauderdale. You could drive there, but I don't know where you live, spend night before in a hotel, park for free and take the hotel's shuttle to and from the Port. RCCL's Freedom of the Seas leaves from Port Canaveral and we have been on her twice. She has a Flow rider - that is surfing on land and I did it 7 times and was 70 years old, and learned to take off on my knees! The kids doing this put us older people to shame! They also have a climbing wall which I will do next time. There is an ice rink with a skating show and lounges with music for dancing plus shows in the theater. Some RCCL ships have the same things but not all. See if you can get an RCCL catalogue from any travel agency. (We do not like NCL at all.) Edited April 23, 2016 by Bonnie J. Cruisin' Chick Posted April 24, 2016 #9 Share Posted April 24, 2016 Ask friends, family members, co-workers who have been on cruises for a recommendation of a good cruise specialist that's in your area. Go in with an idea of where you want to go, when, the amount of money you want to spend on the cruise itself (also remember any flights, plus a hotel for the night before...don't fly in the day of your cruise). A good cruise TA won't be charging you for advice on the right ship and cruise line for you and will even book the cruise at no extra charge. Plus, can answer any questions or help with any problems. You can also find info on this site, but also make sure to read the FAQs on the cruise line's website.
Nickymjw1 Posted April 24, 2016 #10 Share Posted April 24, 2016 For your age group I would suggest Carnival. A little more partying and fun. Age group a little younger. I love Royal better for food quality but it seems to die down after the shows etc. years ago we went in NCL several times (before mega ships) and loved it. Deck party, white night, etc. food was good too. Sent from my iPhone using Forums mobile app
SuiteTraveler Posted April 24, 2016 #11 Share Posted April 24, 2016 NCL Getaway is the sister ship of Breakaway and sails the Caribbean. NCL Escape is one generation newer than Breakaway and Getaway and also sails the Caribbean. Both sail roundtrip from Miami to the Caribbean in October. I've been on Getaway, it is a GREAT ship! There will be plenty of people in your age group onboard. Getaway sails Western Caribbean: Roatan Bay Honduras, Belize City Belize, Costa Maya Mexico and Cozumel Mexico. Escape sails Eastern Caribbean: St. Thomas USVI, Tortola BVI and Nassau Bahamas. Both are great cruises but very different. Personally, I prefer the Eastern Caribbean route - from St. Thomas, you can go over to St. John for the day. From Tortola, you can go to The Baths on Virgin Gorda for the day (one of the best excursions in the Caribbean) and then Nassau has the big water park at Atlantis. The Western Caribbean route - Roatan Bay is a beach day with related activities, Belize City has various jungle tours, Costa Maya is Mayan ruins and/or beach day, Cozumel is a beach day or scuba diving. So, just think about which cruise you would like best and check out the reviews of NCL shore excursions here: http://reviews.ncl.com/4066/CMA/costa-maya-mexico-reviews/category.htm
GUT2407 Posted April 24, 2016 #12 Share Posted April 24, 2016 Yet to have a truly bad one, some are better than others and one line id avoid, but it's not in your area.
Cruisin'Christine Posted April 26, 2016 #13 Share Posted April 26, 2016 Hi! I really enjoy either an Eastern or Southern Caribbean cruise. I find the ports more interesting and safer than a Western Caribbean cruise. I love St Maarten, Tortolla, Dominica, and St Kitts. Good luck with your decision.
