kitty9 Posted May 4, 2016 #1 Share Posted May 4, 2016 In today's mail we received a letter from Oceania apologizing for the Noro outbreak on certain of their voyages during the winter cruise season of 2015-2016, and providing a 25% discount on any Caribbean voyage on Riviera for 2016 and 2017. Personally, I think this is a very good gesture on the part of Oceania in recognizing the negative impact that the Noro cruises had on passengers. But I think they are more interested in he negative impact that all the Noro and their closing their eyes to it has had on their future bookings. It is a good thing for whatever reason. brody013 Posted May 5, 2016 #3 Share Posted May 5, 2016 Based on our telecon with Oceania yesterday, the Riviera discount certificate only applies to the 2016-17 season which ends next March. We were planning to use this certificate for a 10-day Riviera Caribbean cruise in December, 2017. Unfortunately, Oceania rep's reply yesterday was that cruise is beyond the eligibility time period. They want to make it seem they are doing something, but put so many restrictions on these certificates that most people will not use them anyway. Mostly smoke and mirrors. Too bad. Rare ORV Posted May 5, 2016 #7 Share Posted May 5, 2016 Hi James, While you're fixing things could you find out why I no longer receive ANY correspondence from Oceania? This is not just limited to brochures, it includes post cruise Club Certificates, the O Life magazines and anything else, including this letter under discussion, although I have already booked my discounted cruise. I haven't received anything in almost two years now, but take at least 2 or more Oceania cruises a year. I have called in to request this be fixed, my TA (Oceania Specialist) has called twice, and I still receive nothing. I wonder if Oceania is trying to send me a message? We are actually some of the few people that like getting the brochures and catalogs. I think this would be in your dept. Thank you for anything you might do on this. You could look up my account with orv7@hotmail.com, or contact me if you need more information. This includes November and December of 2017. I have contacted the call center to make sure everyone understands this information. Mr. Rodriguez: There is no asterisk in your letter or on the certificate. But, when I turned the letter over, there IS an asterisk. And in very, very, very small type it says: 25% discount is only valid on Caribbean Voyages on any Riviera Caribbean cruise through December 31, 2017. 25% discount offer is only valid on Cruise-Only fares and does not include government fees & taxes, Olife Choice amenities or Airfare. This offer is not transferrable or combinable. When I checked the O web site, there seem to be 14 sailings that qualify AND THEY ALL INCLUDE OLIFE AMENITIES. So, it looks like people have to make a choice: if they're interested in booking a very expensive suite they should take the 25% discount. If they're booking something less expensive, then they should take the OLIFE AMENITIES. I'm sure there are many people who received your letter - but never turned it over to find out that this offer is not combinable. For many of us, this "gesture of goodwill" has no value at all. Very sad. (And, yes, we had already booked another Riviera Caribbean cruise two months ago.)

We get many Viking brochures ( throw them in the trash...because I don't trust the company) and Regent (which we never sailed --- for us O is a better fit, because Regent is all inclusive, which doesn't interest us). We used to get a ton of O mailings, but they've slowed to a level that is almost perfect. Edited May 6, 2016 by buggins0402

Cruseforme Posted May 7, 2016 #16 Share Posted May 7, 2016 (edited) Hi James, Thank you for all of the clarifications! One quick question...I understand Oceania is rolling out the certificates for future cruises, and we sailed B2B 12/2-12/22, so are eligible. If by chance, we do not receive one, I assume a call to customer service by my TA or myself will be sufficient to obtain the 25% discount as per terms? Or should we contact someone else? Thank you again, and it is good to know that Oceania Does listen and read these boards! Tina Edited May 7, 2016 by Cruseforme

Please check your invoice and make sure they are included. It is not an either or options. Mr. Rodriguez: Thanks for responding to my post. I spoke to Maria Mendez who I was told was an Oceania Reservations Supervisor. She looked at my booking and told me that I didn't qualify for the promotion. Because I had booked with a travel agent, she said, she couldn't talk to me about my reservation. So I called my TA, who told me that because I had booked under a very favorable price promotion back in March, that Oceania would give me a $100 OBC as a "goodwill gesture". Is this what you had in mind when you made what looked like a very generous goodwill gesture?

Same for me, but I do have a cruise booked with the 25% discount. I guess if I didn't read Cruise Critic I wouldn't have known anything about it. I wonder how many others are in the same situation? Of course my last name does start with W, so maybe I'm at the end of the list.

oceansandseas Posted May 12, 2016 #22 Share Posted May 12, 2016 o Mr. Rodriguez - everyone on the cruises that were affected by Norovirus are receiving a coupon for 25% off their next cruise. This is being given for those just for being on the cruise. My husband and I were on the B2B cruises - February 2-12th and February 12-22, 2016. I followed all of the sanitary precautions as always. However, I was very sick with Norovirus and as I reported to the doctor, as instructed by the Captain, we were quarantined to our cabin for 4 1/2 days with cold and unappetizing food from room service. Food and service well below the standard of Oceania. Is there an extra compensation, to renew our trust in Oceania, for those who actually suffered and could not fully enjoy the cruise? Thank you for letting me vent. 2233537 and 2233541

tgg Posted May 13, 2016 #25 Share Posted May 13, 2016 If you can get a really good deal on a Riviera Caribbean cruise from your travel agent, does that mean that you don't get the 25% off? I hope Mr. Rodriguez is still reading this discussion and can answer this question for us. I called Oceania and asked for Mr. Rodriguez' email address and was told that it isn't publicly available.
