How does the $50/port excursion credit work?

We will be 3 in our cabin with 4 ports. I picked the UBP for the 1st 2 people and the $50/ port excursion credit as the bonus booking offers.

Will the credit just be applied as $200 on our account to use against any excursions we may book or is it really that we have to book excusions at every port to use it. With 3 people we could easily use up that $200 on just one port, which is what I would prefer. Otherwise DD has already said she will not go with us on excursions, which is not what I want.

I am trying to find out now so that we can decide which ports we want to use NCL and which we just want to explore something on our own.

Can anyone who has picked this particular promo tell me how it has worked?

I don't know any detail about it, but it's been stated on here a number of times that it is strictly $50 per port. You can't combine the credits and use at one port.

It would seem to me that this negates the value of the promo for many as it isn't hard to save $50 by not using the NCL excursions, but if you have specific reasons for using NCL then it's probably worth it.

It's $50 per port and added to your account after your excursion. If you do not use it for that port, you lose that $50.

It's $50 per port. I have a similar promo (I booked last year so mine was $75 per port). I called and booked my excursions over the phone, that way you do not need to pay ahead of time. At the end of the cruise, NCL will deduct the $50 per excursion from the total bill.

you can not spend it all in a single port.

You must book by calling a 800 # or by making the booking once on board.

Is this a recent booking, or a Haven booking, because I did not think they offered those two options together any more...

Just booked Bermuda in a suite and it is showing up as $50. Not $50 each person, but $50 total for the cabin (only two people, and it doesn't matter in our case, but it's not per person)

The OP has 4 ports and is talking about a total of $200, so I assume they are aware that it is $50 per cabin.

So if you are doing a Bermuda cruise and that is the only port I'm guessing that you can use it all on one day or will they only let you use $50 each day?

Three days in Bermuda. You can use it for $50 each day for three excursions. Cannot use it in one day.

I agree that when looking at the cost of the excursions, it seems fairly minimal. But it can be used to some effect. We were two cabins so had $50 per cabin. In Nassau, we booked an adult and a child from each cabin on the Glass Bottomed Boat tour. I want to say it ended up costing each cabin $14 after the credit. So $28 for four of us to go on the tour. Not bad. Better than aimlessly walking around Nassau and going in and out of shops.

Helpful hint: Click on the promo. Scroll to bottom of the page where you will see the Terms and Conditions link. Info available for all current promos. ;)

Can't click on the promo with my Ipad. It does nothing, and I was unsuccessful in a search of the site or this board. However as usual I got the information I needed from the peeps here.

I booked this a while ago when it was pick 2 and originally it was DH and myself so it seemed like a good choice at the time. Then we added DD and now it's not so great...

The DW and I picked this with the SDP for our Alaska cruise, also pick 2. We are not big drinkers, maybe 1 drink every two days, and don't have the need to be connected to the internet onboard.

We were planning on doing excursions in each port, so we are benefiting from the promo. We also like how we could reserve the shore excursions and they are charged to the ship account. $50 per port as reported above, if you don't do a shore excursion at a port, you lose the credit for that port.

It also works for those who want the security of ship excursions. HTH

Here are the T&Cs for the Excursion Promo:

Shore Excursion Credit Offer:

$50 shore excursion credit is per stateroom.

Limit 4 ports. Credit has no monetary value and is nonrefundable.

Itineraries visiting less than 4 ports for any reason are not eligible for a refund or credit.

In the event a port of call is missed, for any reason, no refund or credit will be issued.

Shore excursion credit is applicable for each port, and is not transferable to other ports. Use the credit or lose it.

Does not include embarkation and debarkation ports.

Overnight stays count as one port, except Bermuda sailings which can receive up to 3 individual days of shore excursion credit.

Shore excursion credit can only be redeemed by calling 1-866-625-1167 or booking onboard.

So, to summarize:

1) $50 per stateroom per port... book a $300 excursion at one port you pay $250, book a $49 excursion at the next port you pay $0, book a $99 excursion at the next port you pay $49

2) Bermuda $50 per stateroom per day... this is a little crazier because you can possibly do two separate excursions per day but you are allowed only the $50 per day

3) if NCL skips a port for any reason, you lose the $50.... typically if GSC is on your itinerary you risk losing $50 of the promo

That is a pretty rubbish promotion. I'm surprised that it's $50 per cabin, yet the drinks package if chosen is near $600!

We don't drink alcohol, have the Casino drink card and UBP costs nearly $100pp in fees, a terrible expensive promotion for us. We will visit ports and booking through NCL is fine so a good choice for us.

One thing to watch is the promotion is tied to a specific traveler on the amenity list so it may require that passenger to join the excursion to receive the credit. I have selected our excursions and hope I can reserve this weekend.

The promo (and all on board charges) is tied to the credit card holder for the room so that's fairly typical because how else would NCL know who to bill..... You can "split" the promo at checkin if you use additional credit cards per passenger in stateroom.

lol $600 is retail

It probably costs Ncl $100 cost

The excursion credit a joke though because all it does is guarantee pax book the overpriced Ncl excursions

We took the Internet package

I can say the same thing about the drink package. To me it's not worth what we have to pay upfront for gratuities since we are not big drinkers. When we booked the Breakaway we were offered two choices so we took the excursion and internet credit. If we use it fine if not we aren't out anything. Also booking a tour through NCL will guarantee they wait for you if the tour is running late.
