David148 Posted May 13, 2016 #1 Share Posted May 13, 2016 Ok so I saw some videos of people who have tied up a small tree hammock on their balconies mostly on NCL, wondering if anyone here has done this on Carnival? I called to ask and the kind lady didn't know the answer, but said it sounds like an awesome idea lol. Anyone know?? Thanks, David
margiandmike Posted May 13, 2016 #2 Share Posted May 13, 2016 I've definitely seen people post that they have hung those hammocks on the aft balconies. Give it a try. It sounds heavenly.

Micahs Grandad Posted May 13, 2016 #4 Share Posted May 13, 2016 Never heard of or seen anyone doing this, wondering if they would allow it?
youagain Posted May 13, 2016 #5 Share Posted May 13, 2016 I was wondering the same except they say it is so hot could you put it across the top for shade?
youagain Posted May 13, 2016 #6 Share Posted May 13, 2016 How would you hook it to the balcony?
David148 Posted May 13, 2016 Author #7 Share Posted May 13, 2016 How would you hook it to the balcony? Just ties like you would tie it around a tree. I was thinking to tie it around the metal frame on the sides of the balcony. Like I said I called and the lady didn't know for sure the answer. Looks like most people buy the $19.97 or $29.97 travel hammocks from the sporting goods section of walmart.
vwrestler171 Posted May 14, 2016 #8 Share Posted May 14, 2016 This question was asked a couple weeks ago on social media and it was deemed not to be allowed. Whether or not you get away with it is a different story. They said they were worried about people falling out of the hammock and getting hurt. vwrestler171 Posted May 14, 2016 #10 Share Posted May 14, 2016 And then turning around and suing the cruise line. Very True. They did use the phrase "liability reasons"

evandbob Posted May 14, 2016 #14 Share Posted May 14, 2016 People can fall out of a hammock and hit the deck, the railing, or even go over the railing. Kids would love playing in one so they could be in danger. I believe it could also pose a fire risk, as all cruise lines warn against putting any kind of clothing, towels or material on a balcony deck. David148 Posted May 15, 2016 Author #15 Share Posted May 15, 2016 We used one. Loved it. Would do it again. Cabin staff didn't say anything to you? Did you need to bring anything else to secure it?
Rare Buffettfan 225 Posted June 18, 2016 #16 Share Posted June 18, 2016 Cabin staff didn't say anything to you? Did you need to bring anything else to secure it? We just receive a travel hammock & could not find it listed as restricted item. Not planning on bringing as next cruise is Alaska (first time.) I have seen them attached at heavy welded balcony divider hinge, and opposing angle railing. I think would need to be kind wrap cord around and using caribbeaner clips to take down when not using as they don't even allow a towel drying on balcony due to fire hazard. Hope someone gives us more info, may like to use on Caribbean cruise as nylon & easy to pack.
lberbe Posted June 18, 2016 #17 Share Posted June 18, 2016 I brought mine on our last cruise. I'd take it down most of the time when I wasn't using it but the steward did see it and never said anything. I'd also leave the straps up so I could just re-clip the hammock. Hanging it was easy with the balcony dividers.

A&Jfamily Posted May 25, 2017 #20 Share Posted May 25, 2017 Whether or not people get away with it, it is a violation of CCL rules. It poses a fire hazard. Not only is it potentially flammable materiel - see other posts where people have woken up to find cigarette butts on their balcony because someone from above didn't dispose of them properly - but also would hinder the fire crew dealing with an emergency. If you listen at muster you are told not to leave ANYTHING on your balcony. Its a great idea in theory and I know I would enjoy one, but given the above, please don't do it. tomsgirl84 Posted May 25, 2017 #21 Share Posted May 25, 2017 My husband does it every time with no issues. He doesn't leave it out when we are gone. The aft balcony railing area is slanted, he just fixes it so it's hanging under there. A perfect view of the wake!
MrsK Posted May 25, 2017 #22 Share Posted May 25, 2017 I know that we have been docked before right next to a cruise ship that had hammocks permanently installed on every balcony of the ship. Unfortunately at the moment I can't remember the name of the cruise line.

Unfortunately at the moment I can't remember the name of the cruise line. One of the luxury lines we looked at had that-Paul Gauguin maybe? The hammock idea from the OP sounds fine, just make sure to take it down when not in use.
