Has anyone ever asked at Butler to....

Oh darn I did miss the other thread.

 

And I haven't mentioned more than perhaps requesting the concierge to organize a pickup line from the Haven restaurant- not even sure if that is practical on other ships, compared to Jewel ships where Cagney's is very close to kids club. But this made for a highly entertaining thread

Abbyar when are you cruising? Is it a time of year that may not be as many children therefore shorter lines. And what ship ? sorry if I missed this ,its a long thread

 

Due to children's ages and my oldest being in AP classes, we are restricted to times of school breaks & when there will be a high concentration of children. Have cruises booked on Jade, Epic, and Escape. Hence why I asked the question - I'm sure different weeks/ different kids club teams/ different Concierges would address this in certain ways. If there are several families in the Haven the club may be willing to do a walk around.

Here's a suggestion. Do not book with NCL. Go on one of the other cruise lines that you have loved to mention that is so much better. I find fun things that we can do as a family and don't need to drop my school aged children off in the kids club. My daughter actually enjoys just walking around the ship with her parents. I don't gamble and I don't drink so I spend the time that most are drunk in the casino with my children on our family vacation. And yes. By the tone of your posting. You would be the first one to sue anyone and everyone if the children you don't like to spend time with gets hurt while in someone else's care on the ship. How about taking a children's book along and actually interacting with your children while waiting in line. Hmmm. What a novel idea. Look at the bright side. Having to wait all that time at the kids club is saving you from losing money in the casino which u keep pointing out is a big money maker for NCL

 

Wow - condescending much? OP obviously has to be drinking and gambling all day if they are sending the kids to kids care. And because they are in the haven, they must be much more litigious than the non haven passengers.

 

And what are we teaching our kids with priority airport check-in and security lines for people!? What will they thing when they see people cutting in front of all of these other people who have been standing in line forever!?

I don't care to share personal details as to when I'll be cruising, but the oldest will not be joining all future cruises. Additionally, if a service is offered by NCL, I would prefer to avail of that service as opposed to making a teen who is on vacation do what is not her responsibility.
Yes, but as has already been discussed ad nauseum in this thread, there's no such service offered by NCL that includes kid drop off at the kid's club. It's prohibited because of liability reasons. You acknowledge that dropping off her younger siblings at the kid's club is not the older one's responsibility. But having a butler or concierge drop your kids off at the kid's club is not their responsibility either.

 

You already know this, but the responsibility is either yours or your husband's. Seems like neither of you wants the responsibility, so perhaps if the oldest is not joining all future cruises, maybe you might want to consider leaving your younger ones with her at home? Just a thought.

In all seriousness; I don't fault OP for wanting to know if the Butler will handle this, and I don't think it is an obnoxious or outlandish request. I just think it is outside of the scope of the butlers job. NCL advertises Haven guests as basically getting priority everywhere so it's not a stretch to think this would extend to kids club lines.

 

 

IMHO, it makes more sense for someone to escort a child to the day camp than escort an adult to the theater. And, if someone is paying full price for the Haven, I think the child should have priority to the day camp.

 

Money talks...and they're spending a lot of it.

I am new to CC but have been following this post because we are in the Haven on our upcoming cruise. What does IMHO mean please? I figured OP meant Original Post right? What about DH and DD and all those D's? If someone could clear that up. Thanks!

I am new to CC but have been following this post because we are in the Haven on our upcoming cruise. What does IMHO mean please? I figured OP meant Original Post right? What about DH and DD and all those D's? If someone could clear that up. Thanks!

We just booked our first NCL cruise and booked a suite. Do people really ask their Butler to unpack for them?? Eh?? Kinda strange to me but what do I know?? LOL.

 

What type of things are common to ask the Butler to do? I have cruised quite a bit but never had a Butler before. I would only be comfortable asking for Standard/Common things as I would always want to treat them with the utmost respect and never want them to feel I was above them or taking advantage.

 

Any help on standard requests would be great!

I would think a very, very few ask for the Butler to unpack for them, because I'm sure they understand that they are not the only passenger they take care of and it would take some time and also, many would not want them unpacking their personal items.

 

I ask for a pitcher of iced tea and/or water daily and even though I ask that no snacks be delivered (I don't want the daily ones), I will ask for cookies every now and then. You can pretty much ask the Butler for anything within reason and if he or she can do it, they will and if they can't they won't.

The butler unpacking thing was (and maybe still is) listed as one of the things the butler would do for suite guests. Some people mention liking the idea, others not so much. In all reality, the first day they are very busy so adding unpacking kind of burdens them.

Think about how many elderly people are on cruise ships. Physically, unpacking can be very difficult for some of them.

Sue - There are tons of threads on the NCL board about butlers and the concierge. If you do a search it's been discussed frequently.

I just did a search for butler and that's the link above. I did change the search function to show posts and not threads so that gives you a better idea of the content so you don't have to click if it doesn't seem to answer a question you have.

 

We've had a butler twice - the 1st time he was just okay and the 2nd was wonderful. Generally brought some breakfast for my mom each morning. Snacks and chocolate chip cookies in the afternoons. We had lunch and dinner in the suite several times and he handled that as well. You can pretty much ask him for anything and if he/she can't handle it, they would let you know. The concierge will handle any dinner or show reservations for you as well as priority embark/debark.

 

Both the butler and the concierge are not part of the DSC (daily service charge) and so should be tipped according to how much service provided. There are things discussing tip amounts as well.
