I just got off the Gem and had a great time! I ate at all the specialty restaurants except Le Bistro. I have lots of pics and all the dailies but I'm not sure how to post them (when I use cc directly they are very small). I will be happy to answer and questions anyone has also. If someone can tell me how to upload the pictures and dailies I will post them also!!!!!

I have never uploaded pictures to this site so I can't help you there, but I would like to hear about your trip if you don't mind. I'll be sailing on the Gem in five weeks and am very much looking forward to my trip and love reading about others' experiences. :D

Does the Gem have free shows every night in the theater? We were on the breakaway Dec 14 and there was one night the show was an extra charge. and a couple no show night. I was told that on the older ships the shows were every night and free.

We will be on the Gem in September. I know the shows are subject to change, but which shows were on your sailing? Did you use internet or iconcierge and what were the costs? What about reservations for specialty restaurants, did you make them before you sailed and were they easy to change? Thank you in advance for your help!

Yes, the shows on the Gem are all free. And sometimes, you get what you pay for. :)

(Which is my way of saying to NCL -- please retire "World Beat" already!)

Me and my husband had an awesome time!!!!!!!!!!! This was our first cruise and it did not disappoint. Everyone was very sweet and pleasant, we were in cabin 10545 which Judy kept spotless. The shows in the Stardust were great and free, didn't care for Second City and Magic performance to much. We loved the food in the Magenta Restaurant, must try the NY strip steak and the service was great. Plenty activities, my husband wore me out on the last day. He was involved in everything. One note, if you plan on doing an excursion in the Bahamas do not do it through Norwegian it's way too expensive. When you come into port there are $4 (per person)cabs at the port waiting to take you around to specific places. We had a guy take me and my husband around for three hours for only$20 each. You should also visit the Straw Market. We are already planning the next trip, can't wait!! Oh can't forget to say that Alvin the cruise director kept the ship rockin!!!!!!

Shows all free

Day 1 welcome aboard show

Day 2 pure variety show

Day 3 Second city

Day 4 get down tonight

Day 5 action comedy of Michael Mensa

Day 6 swing

Day 7 MAGIKA

Iconcierge you can use for free to check your account charges and transactions, see what is going on (same info as dailies), look up excursions, restaurants, and more.

For $10 you can message other guests (who also paid) or call them unlimited and it works great.

Internet packages are expensive!!! $75 for 100 minutes and $125 for 250 minutes $200 for unlimited. Latitudes members bronze and up get extra minutes with a purchase.

I booked last minute so I hadn't made any reservations. My family had reservations and added us to them on the ship. I made a reservation for Teppanyaki on the ship but the only available times where late.

I plan on posting a longer review Monday when I get on my computer will share the link to that when I do.

Also just off the Gem, Magic show ok but mostly old stuff. Crew shows were terrible, to much dancing, gaudy outfits. Singing in one show ok, but need to update tunes, second show we didnt know most of the songs and to much dancing-dancing-dancing. No type of headliners.

Same as last year. The entertainment on the Gem reminds me of that scene in the movie "Casino" with the "Sam Rothstein dancers." Very dated and kitschy. I really like the Gem, but the entertainment and water slide really need an update.

I have to smile, because the water slide is brand new. It was installed during the dry dock late last fall. (It needed some adjustments right off the bat and so was not open for a number of cruises, prompting a ton of complaints on here at the time.)

I doubt there's really any room on the deck of the Gem or other Jewel class ships for anything but the kind of kid's slide they just put on the Gem. If you want the bells and whistles of a new ship, you need to sail on a new ship. :)

That's what's so tragic. It still sucks.

The Gem doesn't need more slides. It just needs a slide that works.

It was working fine in February. Kids were enjoying it. The point I was making is that it's a slide for kids. It's not the kind of huge slide that gets built now on big new ships for adults and teenagers.

Kiddie slide?

Uh, no. It's not supposed to be "just" for kids.
