Rare CTSandy Posted May 25, 2016 #51 Share Posted May 25, 2016 (edited) Loving the updates - will be boarding when you return and looking forward to it. I'm bringing my nephew and his girlfriend with me - college graduation gift for him - they've never cruised and are looking forward to it! I will be following this until we leave for port on Sunday AM!! BTW, they have an inside on Deck 5, aft - I'm in a balcony - so I guess I'll get to see those empty hallways myself when I head down to meet them:) Edited May 25, 2016 by CTSandy
Rare mking8288 Posted May 25, 2016 Author #52 Share Posted May 25, 2016 Both the Hamilton & SG fast CAT ferries were full for the 11:30 run, the Bermudian came as a backup so we ended up going downtown. We will go tomorrow instead. Tip for others, go get the 2 days pass early & get in the line for boarding. Dockyard area with the ships & walkway to bus and ferries. Rare mking8288 Posted May 25, 2016 Author #54 Share Posted May 25, 2016 Look at this narrow channel, one reason why bigger cruise ship cannot sail past & dock in downtown Hamilton, where the Veendam is, right next to the stage for Wednesday night's Harbor Festival. Ferry terminal is to the left, super easy to get around. Central main bus terminal is 3 blocks up the small hill, right turn & 2 short blocks. Casino Comp Chick Posted May 25, 2016 #56 Share Posted May 25, 2016 Just loving this! We will be on this sailing in August. What is that black pirate looking ship that I see on the PortBermudaWebcam site and also in one of your pictures above?? That's the infamous bar the 2 girls were drinking at when the mom got off he ship to look for them and missed the ship. The pirate ship is sooooo close to the BA there is no excuse to miss it while hanging out in there.
meatball_nyc Posted May 25, 2016 #57 Share Posted May 25, 2016 (edited) Calico Jack's. It's a dive bar right there at the pier. There's no way you could miss hearing the ship's horn. We had a drink there one night but never went back. Keep up the great live report mking. Love it! Enjoy beautiful Bermuda :) Edited May 25, 2016 by meatball_nyc
Rare mking8288 Posted May 25, 2016 Author #58 Share Posted May 25, 2016 CTSandy, deck 5 midship is nice & quiet, easy walk for gangway to Dockyard, only using forward ones. Some of the sideway inside ones are very roomy, hardly felt the ship moving with 5 ft. seas or even when at 10 to 12 ft. Hi, meatballnyc & Dexddd, here's what the pier look like to the runners missing the loud ship horn blasting & there is no way to miss it when at that nearby dive bar/pirate ship right next to the walkway. On our way back on #7 bus to the ship, just past the hospital & near the rotary traffic circle, we came upon a scooter accident off to the side of the narrow 2 way roads, fire rescue & first responder on scene, looked like it involved another vehicle with injuries. Sad always, hopefully not someone from the ships & they getting the best care and have insurance. Bus & Ferry passes sold inside at VIC, $31.50 for 2 days with 3.75% surcharge for credit cards. Folks are returning earlier, a bit humid but no showers or rain. Time to eat again, soon. Still have about 425 MB of free data but used all 250 minutes, nice - woohoo. oldstylecubfan Posted May 25, 2016 #60 Share Posted May 25, 2016 Wait!! Does Project Fi work in Bermuda for $10/gig? I was told it didn't. I was just in France and Belgium and it was great to have international coverage without paying roaming for data.
Rare mking8288 Posted May 26, 2016 Author #61 Share Posted May 26, 2016 (edited) Yes, oldstylecunfan. Fi sim registered on Digicel here in Bermuda, as shown above. Paying either 20 cents per minute on cellular call or free WiFi call. Data is slow but usable for basic email & web surfing, also using data only Sim on factory unlocked iPad Mini w 4G. Signal is good on deck 7 AFT MDR calling home, free on Fi Network. OSH has no more nightly specials, day 1 was prime rib and day 2 was BBQ ribs, but nothing last night or tonight. No more mini floor show at dinner prime time in Manhattan MDR on 2 nights we ate there. Tonight, we all are salmon or red snapper, dessert options already being repeated but they are good, still. Morning in the buffet, hot cereal & choice of yogurt are available, croissants too. Viva_la_Vida Posted May 26, 2016 #65 Share Posted May 26, 2016 Wonderful review! Thanks for doing this. Can you purchase the transportation passes on board, or did you have to get them once docked? Also, do you know when the Vibe passes sold out?
cruiservictor Posted May 26, 2016 #66 Share Posted May 26, 2016 Thanks for posting all this great info, especially the pictures. We were on the Breakaway last February and will be back aboard on Aug 14th. Would you let me know who the Captain, Hotel Director and Cruise Director are this week? (Last February they were Hakan Svedung, Prem Kainakkara and Dan Dan.)
nena09 Posted May 26, 2016 #67 Share Posted May 26, 2016 Wow! Beautiful and informal pics! I am planning my cruise for sometime next year to Bermuda. Your review is making me want to put the first deposit! Lol, have u visited any beaches with the pink sand? Horseshoe Bay? Also, what else is there to do in Bermuda other than shop and swim? Did u book any excursions?
Rare mking8288 Posted May 26, 2016 Author #68 Share Posted May 26, 2016 (edited) Our Free 250 minutes/1000 MB is lasting quite a bit, if you don't upload pix crazy like me & use tablet or smartphone, it can last a whole week. Close to 800 minutes & 575 MB so far, pushing my NCL luck here since I got 2 backup plan. Dan Dan is not onboard, possibly on vacation so Susie ?? name spelling ?? is running things. Can't help w Vibe passes but pretty sure they're sold out quick as I heard lots of chatter while waiting to boarding as VIP/casino guests. Didn't hear about passes being sold onboard, so try to get off once in Dockyard, get them @ VIC - where books of 15 tickets were NOT sold either, had to go to Hamilton or SG to buy them. Horseshoe Bay was quite full at 3 pm this afternoon due to 2 ships & the shuttle, not too many taxis at DY as most had picked up pax by the time we hit the pier at 10:45 ... We are going DIY to see unfinished Church & maybe the Fort nearby, just going to wing it or play by ears. Some folks got rained upon wearing their poncho coming back late in the evening. Here's Shanghai's simple menu, portions are small, many ordering 3 to 4 dishes as a full meal, LOL. No salad option at all. I know, it's free & place is full with a wait of 15-30 minutes. Here's the adjustable shower head with hand spray, no problem. Ceiling outlet, low amp rating with our USB powered LED night lights. Lots of open shelves for storage, even a clean shelf inside the sink area for shoes or soiled laundry, to be washed (free for us w Platinum) or remember to take them home, lol That's about all I can think of, thanks all for following & please ask questions & will try to best answer them tomorrow. Just remember this is valid info now for the BA, and subject to change without notice. Crew at Uptown Grill has no idea about changing to Margaritaville, yet.
