MOcruiserman Posted May 24, 2016 #1 Share Posted May 24, 2016 We will be on a RCI ship that will be docking in Charlotte Amalie in January early in the morning. We want to spend considerable time shopping and eating lunch but we would also like to go on a short tour of the island. Our ship leaves at 5:30. Is there a tour that will take us around the island in a couple of hours and get us back to the ship well before 5:30? I didn't see anything applicable among the excursions offered by Royal Caribbean.
O2B@Cagain Posted May 24, 2016 #2 Share Posted May 24, 2016 You can easily go to town, shop, have a wonderful lunch and get a taxi to take you on an island tour. Easy, peasy. :D

Ms411 Posted May 25, 2016 #4 Share Posted May 25, 2016 There will be taxi drivers af both docks and in town offering island tours. The normal tour is 2 hours and costs approximately $25 per person.

Cruise Lover Kathy Posted June 17, 2016 #7 Share Posted June 17, 2016 We will have 12 hours docked at St Thomas. We are thinking about going to St John first for a few hours then back to Red Hook. Can we get a "taxi" tour heading back toward Charlotte Amalie and still see the same things as tours that start at the port?
Ms411 Posted June 17, 2016 #8 Share Posted June 17, 2016 No, cruisermanVA. You won't have enough time, because traffic gets pretty heavy going back to the ship in afternoons.
O2B@Cagain Posted June 17, 2016 #9 Share Posted June 17, 2016 cruisin'kathy: The taxis that run tours are based at the cruise ship docks or town. The taxis out of the ferry dock basically want to take you to town or the airport.

Another question...Princess is offering transportation to St John right from the dock but it includes a 2 hour tour for about what it would cost to do it on our own. I think it may be new since no one has mentioned it yet. We aren't folks who lay on the beach so do you think that would be enough to get a feel for St John? We would definitely have time for a tour around St Thomas then. Thanks
Ms411 Posted June 20, 2016 #11 Share Posted June 20, 2016 The standard island tour is 2 hours, and though it's a decent tour, 2 hours barely scratches the surface of a destination. It's still worthwhile, though.
