srphnx Posted May 9, 2004 #4 Share Posted May 9, 2004 I wish Coke wasn't the microsoft of the sea beverage that it is. We prefer about 4 kinds of soda you can't get on ships, some are actually coke products ~ diet dr. pepper and I like fresca, but we bring that along with our diet pepsi and diet rootbeer. srphnx Posted May 9, 2004 #8 Share Posted May 9, 2004 OH NO and thus begins the final controversy the one that brings the Princess board to it's knees... Coke Heads vs. Pepsi Freaks... soccermommie Posted May 9, 2004 #10 Share Posted May 9, 2004 As with everything else, I'm sure it's a simple matter of economics. The coke contract must have been much more alluring than that of pepsi. I know it's a pain, but if you really can't stand coke products or must have your pepsi, then just bring it with you. Funny little sidenote: A few years ago, the hospital where I work changed the soft drink contract from coke to pepsi. Considering all the staff who now just bring in 12pks of coke products to keep in their lockers, I don't know how profitable the change has been. In fact, many of the patients do the same thing! soccermommie
lswaaley Posted May 9, 2004 #11 Share Posted May 9, 2004 Actually, I wonder why the cruise lines don't call the other that is not under contract a premium and charge more for it. Some hotel chains and casinos are now doing this.
jhannah Posted May 9, 2004 #12 Share Posted May 9, 2004 It's Coke, all the way! I'm sure Princess saw what we collectively did years ago when they tried to change to the "new" Coke, and learned that Coke heads ( ) are true blue to their brands and thus should be catered to onboard their ships. So ... that settles it! 'Vegas Jim
*KristenInCT* Posted May 9, 2004 #13 Share Posted May 9, 2004 Coke is IT! I couldnt even imagine drinking Pepsi... even if I was walking through the desert for 40 days and 40 nights. Pepsi is too sweet and has no fizz/pop at all...you crack open a can of Coke and you can hear the bubbles bursting with flavor! lol I should work for Coke eh? I love when I go out to eat and ask for a Coke and they go, Pepsi ok?? I laugh and just ask for water. 9/11/04 ...days left til the Caribbean Princess!! CaptData Posted May 9, 2004 #15 Share Posted May 9, 2004 Did you know coke actually had cocain in it at one time. Coke forever is good. I like the new diet lime. I wish there was more then just one choice of diet pop, maybe they can add diet vanilla, lime and root beer. riverboatgambler Posted May 9, 2004 #16 Share Posted May 9, 2004 Since being converted to diet drinks via diabetes, it is amazing to me that they only offer one diet drink...Diet Coke on board. Of course it is not just the cruise ships as most restaurants only offer one diet drink either Diet Pepsi or Diet Coke. You would think with more and more people drinking diet, whatever company wins the contract...Coke or Pepsi, they would offer additional diet products. yensid1071 Posted May 9, 2004 #17 Share Posted May 9, 2004 Admittedly, I'm a Coke fan myself... but find it interesting that Pepsi is available in very few place (Subway recently changed their contract from Pepsi to Coke as well). If offered Pepsi, I will take Dr Pepper, my 2nd soft drink of choice. Quick Coke suggestion... add a slice of lime. Mmmmmmmmmm..... not the diet Coke, pre-filled, fake lime juice stuff. But real, authentic lime. Mmmmmmmmmmm...... kckitties Posted May 9, 2004 #18 Share Posted May 9, 2004 riverboatgambler, I've also been served Diet Sprite on board, as it is a Coca-Cola product. Personally, I prefer Diet 7-Up, but drink Diet Sprite on a cruise. kckitties
azsunshine Posted May 9, 2004 #19 Share Posted May 9, 2004 Yensid, you are right, that would probably make it better...a bit of fresh lime juice and shot of rum....yep, that will work! yensid1071 Posted May 9, 2004 #20 Share Posted May 9, 2004 Oooooo.... I set myself up for that one, didn't I? LOL! Seems we agree on one thing tho... the soft drink we'd rather not have has no fizz and/or flavor to us (Pepsi in my case... it tastes flat and stale). But to each, his or her own. jsea Posted May 10, 2004 #22 Share Posted May 10, 2004 Why doesn't Dr. Pepper get any love? At least AA has finally started serving it again. To think a Texas-based company didn't serve it (for a while)!
JanetMarie Posted May 10, 2004 #23 Share Posted May 10, 2004 No matter what the decision is, DH drinks Coke and I drink Pepsi. So one of us will always be unhappy with the beverage. *KristenInCT* Posted May 10, 2004 #24 Share Posted May 10, 2004 Its funny, I raved about Coke but I really drink DIET Coke...I think I am addicted. I was really talking Coke products in general though. Something must be up if McDonalds, Burger King, Wendys, Yankee Stadium (had to throw that in..), Disney World,Cruiselines and tons others have contracts with Coke. To each his own. 9/11/04 ...days left til the Caribbean Princess!! Pam in CA Posted May 10, 2004 #25 Share Posted May 10, 2004 The answer to the original question is that Coke has probably done a better job offering a deal to the cruiselines. Whether you like Coke or Pepsi doesn't enter into it -- it's all in the marketing.
