May 28 Empress first sailing back with RCI live review (many pictures!)

Recommended Posts

No hot water in one of our cabins. We have 3 booked together. Maybe that was valuable to them. They offered to move us to the Allure tomorrow, or 100 percent refund with 100 percent additional cruise credit. We have one of our daughter's boyfriend that is leaving for the Air Force in two weeks. We couldn't postpone, and some of our group could not do a full week on short notice so we stayed with what we had. Food in the windjammer was very good for lunch. Crowds were manageable. Cautiously optimistic!

May I ask how they contacted you prior to arriving at port? Phone Email etc

I keep thinking these current cruises would have some extra space had Royal allowed folks on the canceled cruises rebook on other ships with price protection. They only allowed folks to move to Majesty which was close to full.

Went back to Key West. Was able to catch the Enchantment here. That's a weird feeling, coming back to a port after disembarkation!!

Thanks for posting the report and all the pics! We were booked on the 5/19 sailing that didn't happen, so we missed her by a week. Even with the problems being reported I'm still sorry we missed her. Hopefully I'll get another chance to cruise on her, and by then I'm sure the kinks will be worked out.

My Empress cruise was cancelled and I was rebooked on Enchantment for similar dates.

Those in the first batch of cancellations were only offered Majesty - we were in that group! Would gladly have had Enchantment but she was not included!

We have had absolutely no issues once we got on board. We have not had dinner in the main dining room but we did have breakfast there this morning. No complaints with the windjammer. Very happy so far. And a huge bonus. The casino is no smoking! That's a big deal for us.

Royal shot us down also. Tried to get on Brilliance same week in April and it was a 4 night cruise instead of 5 nights on Empress. Plenty of space on Brilliance, but they would not move our reservation.

I have tried multiple numbers to switch ships and have had no luck. They all say they haven't heard of any problems.

That's hilarious! Apparently they don't monitor their own Facebook page??? If they did, they'd have quite a list of problems.

There's a number posted on FB in response to one of the posts detailing all the issues, and here it is: 800-256-6649

I have no idea what office that number calls, but RC told the poster to call the number to discuss their problems.

That is one of the numbers that I called and had no luck.

I called yesterday. Told them, "After reading the reviews, I don't think this ship is the right fit for my family." My reasoning was the Adventure Ocean Club was listed as too small and we would need a bigger ship. I understood they could fix the bigger problems (e.g. food/plumbing/ac) but that the kids club being too small was not acceptable and we didn't know it until after the maiden voyage.

Are you booked directly through RCL for a cruise later in July? I booked through a TA and then I also tried to switch and they said there would be a 50% penalty. The agent was very sympathetic however, and assured me that everything was going to be okay.

I'm on a July booking. The person I talked to was very nice and understanding.

Also, I booked directly through the web site and paid immediately. I just booked less than a week ago.

Were you booked directly through RCL though too? I bet that stating that there were things that you could not have been aware of until after the maiden cruise is a good tactic.

Difference is your sailing has not been cancelled. I understand your hesitation, but things have to be better on future sailings as the fallout from angry passengers will be too great..

I had to scramble to reschedule vacation time at work. I would of rather of sailed back in April instead of Empress' last scheduled sailing in the oppressive heat of July. End of July was the only time I could reschedule vacation at the last minute when our April sailing was cancelled.
