Bug spray

We're traveling to the western Caribbean this September. What bug spray should we be getting? How much deep should it contain. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Do a web search on this and you will find a recent study done by Consumer Reports specifically about insect repellents that are effective against Zika carrying mosquitoes. We plan to get one of their top rated products prior to our Panama Canal cruise.

The brand is Repel the type is Lemon Eucalyptus which is one of the CDC recommended ingredients to prevent mosquito bites and Zika transmission.

We use Ben's (98% deet) just a few squirts will do ya... With the mosquito issues lately, I won't take chances!!!!

I second this one and will be taking it when I go western caribbean in a few weeks. I use to use this one in the army during drills in Kentucky, even though I saw 20+ mosquitoes flying around me while laying in the woods they almost never actually bit me. Just make sure to wash it off asap when you get back to room.

Off deep Woods has tested the best by consumer reports for several years. It also has enough deet for ZIKA protection.

 

You can buy 2.4 oz trial size at Stop and Shop markets and also at WalMart. At WalMart it will be at the front near the registers and also in the health and beauty department among the travel items. You may find the smooth and dry there, but be aware the deep woods has more deet.

We like the wipes better then the spray. You can carry them to shore in your pocket.

We too use the Deep Woods Off wipes. They are so much easier to pack and use and they don't blow all over the folks around you. A fellow traveled gave us some at Lamanai a few years ago and we were sold. Never go back to spray.
