July 4th on Explorer in Alaska

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know if there will be any special events held for July 4th. Assume no fireworks of course but wonder is there are any known events to plan for.

Thanks for any information !!

Nothing to plan for...they may put up some red, white and blue decorations, but nothing special, really. The ship isn't American...and Independence Day isn't a big deal to them! There will probably be something in ports, if you happen to port on the 4th....google your port and see!!

If you are in one of the ports, it's likely that you will stay late, and see the fireworks. We had that happen in RI during the 4th- it was really awesome. The captain backed out a little, and we were right next to the fort/park that was the shoot off point.

The ship will be decorated, and maybe even a flag cake.

The ship may not be flagged in the US, but RCI as an HQ'd in the US and a gross majority of the passengers will be from the US, so something will be done.

You keep posting that- have you ever been on a cruise during Independence Day?? Sure doesn't seem like it.

We've done it a few times, and something is always done.

If you are in Juneau on the 4th, you will need to pay attention. It is the equivalent of Christmas Day up there! The tour companies have reduced offerings and the parade sometimes blocks traffic. We took a bus to Mendenhall and it was detoured to get us back to the ship. That was the only port we ever worried about making it back to the ship ontime!

We were on Jewel in Alaska last July 4th. It fell on a formal night and many dressed in Red/White/Blue colors, flag ties/sock/kerchiefs/suspenders and such. There was some decorating, and I think I recall the waiters singing America the Beautiful, and a few other songs. Yes, there were no fireworks or anything too out there, but you definitely knew what day it was...

Semi related: I am cruising to Alaska next year over Memorial Day. On that specific day, we will be in port at Icy Strait Point. Any info on whether I should expect reduced tours, etc? Thanks!
