I have read that Dora is better than the ship tour, but her prices $65 (for up to 16 pax) is more than the cruise line is charging ($59.95 with max capacity of 20) and the itinerary looks similar.

 

For those who have done either, would appreciate your insight as to why Dora is better.

Putting that aside, if you book a private excursion, you can limit your group to an optimum size, like 6, 8, or 10. A big difference between those numbers and herding 20 people around.

I'm sure you'll get more replies on the Columbia forum, but in response to your question, two years ago we had Dora guide us when we stopped in Cartagena on a cruise stop. We thoroughly enjoyed the tour. It cost a little more than the ship's tour, but I think we saw more, and Dora customized the tour to see somethings we wanted to see. We also don't like the big crowds on the ship tours (20 is a crowd). I'd recommend Dora.
