Bellablue Posted June 17, 2016 #1 Share Posted June 17, 2016 We are doing a 3 day sailing for a friends 40th birthday next April. Many of us want balconies but realize with such a short sailing it may not be worth it since we will be docked for 2 days. If we were to get a balcony, which side would be best? TIA! Cuizer2 Posted June 17, 2016 #2 Share Posted June 17, 2016 Best for what? This question is impossible to answer. The ships do not always dock facing the same way.
Clarea Posted June 17, 2016 #3 Share Posted June 17, 2016 Depends what you mean by "best". As far as what direction the ship faces at the ports, that is unpredictable.
Bellablue Posted June 17, 2016 Author #4 Share Posted June 17, 2016 Good question - better for views. Looking towards the water. I'm not familiar with those docks so don't know the surroundings. It may not make a difference - thanks!

It may not make a difference - thanks! It really all depends what dock and port they use, time frame, other ships in port, and so on. I personally like the starboard side. Most of the ships I have sailed seemed to dock starboard side. But really it all depends.
cb at sea Posted June 17, 2016 #6 Share Posted June 17, 2016 It's an either/or thing. Even when docked, there are views everywhere...you'll be in a harbor with sights all around! Sometimes, all ships dock parallel to the dock...other times they are side by side, like in a parking lot... The captain will try to give equal time to both sides, when possible! Bellablue Posted June 17, 2016 Author #7 Share Posted June 17, 2016 That's exactly as I was wondering - a view of another cruise ship or water. We will just choose a room based on location on the 7th deck and not worry about the side! Thanks all!
Rare silentbob007 Posted June 17, 2016 #8 Share Posted June 17, 2016 Too many possibilities ... even on Oasis class where they are best set up to debark on one side (due to an escalator) they will occasionally dock on the other side due to life boat tests and other factors. bigque Posted June 17, 2016 #9 Share Posted June 17, 2016 You are going to Nassau and Coco Cay. There are many docs in Nassau so which way they pull in depends on which doc and which way the harbor master puts it in. Coco Cay is tendered so it real does not matter which side you are on! We have always booked the Starboard sides for our balconies. Either way, have fun..
