Without exception they said that unlike Vegas or Atlantic city, there is no mechanism to ensure that the pay-offs are fair...

Have you noticed a decline in big winners over the years?

They say they oversee their own machines....LOL Think about it...not meeting budget?? Just tighten the pay-outs.

No institution will objectively oversee themselves, esp with no overseeing agencies. They play in international water and have the sit. Vegas could only dream about.

Think about it...

I think of ships casinos like playing at the Indian casinos.

I still prefer Vegas to our local IC's, where I know Nev. Gaming comm. at least has jurisdiction. At least its something.....

On the ships, I strictly play Video poker. Theres no sneeking with what the payouts are. They are marked on the machine.

Smart vp players KNOW to check all payschedules before dropping a coin.

As far as slots?

Those can totally be set for terrible payouts, including on ships.

I don't know enough about tables, but I know 6/5 vs. 3/2..... play what

you feel comfortable & fair to you.

This is news? I think most gamblers are aware that (as with Indian Casinos) cruise ship casinos are "self-regulated." Obviously the cruise casino does not set their machines for the same payback rates as mandated by the Nevada Gaming commission - no reason they should.

That being said, there is a flip side to that coin. A smart casino manager knows that he/she cannot afford to set all his machines to terrible payback schedules and hope to make his/her revenue targets. If there's not enough payback during play, people will not keep playing. Every gambler needs enough payback to keep them playing, hoping for the big win - continuous losing simply drives all but the casual gambler away.

HHHHHEEEEELLLLLLLLLLOOOOO albether:If you are talking about slot machines there is no guaranteed payouts. It is a hit or a miss, mostly miss. Table games are different. However, the rules for all the games favor the casinos. If you are looking for a game with a decent chance of winning learn craps. It is the only game in the casino that pays true odds, but, only on certain bets. There are a lot of bad bets at the craps tables too.

The pay tables on shipboard VP are so bad I refuse to play them. It would be faster to just hand the staff your cash instead of playing DDB with 7/5 paytables (6/5 if you play less than $1 level).

This is what I think as well. After many many years of gambling in Atlantic City casinos as well as cruises what we have figured out is that certain games will "let you play" and that's the way we seem to get the most bang for our buck as well as comps and points so we get cruise offers. We try to find a machine or two on each cruise that let's us play and spend alot of time on that machine, we don't usually win at the end but we don't pour money in either and we're getting our points
