Princess Insurance - is this correct?

I think the confusion created by the comment the TA made stems from this: Princess insurance (and all comprehensive travel insurance plans) have two main parts, cancellation and medical and the timing of each differs.

If one has a Cancellation claim it occurs before the trip and Princess insurance will only cover the arrangements purchased through Princess. No outside hotels, air or excursions are included in the Princess coverage for cancellation. Third party insurance will cover all such arrangements if you included the value in your policy.

If one has a medical claim you are covered during the trip plus for a reasonable amount of time before and after the cruise while away from your home heading to and from the cruise. Third party insurance covers the same, but you specify the time frame of the day you leave and the day you return.

When asking any carrier what is 'covered' you must specify which part of the coverage you are referring to to avoid confusion. With Princess, a cancellation claim for a third party excursion would not be covered, but a medical claim from that same excursion would be.
