Jeff6605 Posted July 8, 2016 #1 Share Posted July 8, 2016 (edited) Hello, Is a balcony room (15th floor) right underneath the Garden Cafe buffet on the 16th deck a problem? Smells, tromping sounds? It is either this or upgrade to mid-ship and go down to 13th/14th floor? Recommendations? THANKS! Edited July 8, 2016 by Jeff6605
don't-use-real-name Posted July 8, 2016 #2 Share Posted July 8, 2016 Do you have the opportunity to know what cabin has been assigned ? If so then go to the NCL Deck Plan and see where abouts your cabin is and what is immediately above it. This needs a bit of help from someone who has previously cruised on this ship to know what is where in the Garden Buffet - where the carpeted areas are the tiled floor service areas and where the entry exit doors are relative to the galley. With this a potential noisy or quiet pattern can be established. Galley doors with dirty dish carts going back and forth rolling on the tiled bumps in the floor joining - Noise ! Area with carpets semi-quiet except for periodic vacuum cleaning - Quiet ! Tile floors with knives forks spoons table wear crashing and spilling - Noise ! Maybe tables being moved to mop and clean floors - Noise ! Entry ways - passageways (air or automatic doors) opening closing - Noise ? Having photos or searching for them may help get a glimpse of the detail interior of the Buffet. If right under the exact point of noise - it will be more noticeable - a few cabins either side of that point maybe like in golf a point of relief. Actually having a cabin right under the Garden Buffet is a heck of lot better than being under the pool deck entertainment area with its hard wood deck flooring that is like a sounding board echoing every little whisper of reverberating NOISE ! You are smart to research were you cabin is for peace of mind. Too far aft and you are in a noisy area with the props and thrusters and on some ships the entertainment theatre areas. Too far forward the entertainment theater presents problems. Again too far forward in a suite its lights out conflicting with bridge operations. Too central and the elevators may be humming all day night and the passageways with traffic all day night . OF COURSE THEN THERE ARE THE NEIGHBORS ! Can't help with everything ! LOL ! Jeff6605 Posted July 8, 2016 Author #3 Share Posted July 8, 2016 THANKS! Cabin in question is 15266. I also temp reserved 13850. Or I can try again at a higher cabin value. What about these?
Rare blackwing Posted July 8, 2016 #4 Share Posted July 8, 2016 We were in 15854 right underneath the GC, and never heard a thing. I loved the convenience of being right by the stairs and just one floor down.
don't-use-real-name Posted July 8, 2016 #5 Share Posted July 8, 2016 Cabin 15854 is starboard side and a little forward of yours (15266) on the port side. Looking at photos the galley and buffet are more central and not directly overhead of your cabin. One area of the garden buffet is carpeted and the other a hard wood floor. Can not tell where each is exactly. But as blackwing noted they had nothing to complain about the location. Your option for the other cabin on the starboard side about mid-ship will also be acceptable with cabins all around forward aft and up and down. So only those NEIGHBORS are your worry ! LOL ! The difference of two decks and which side of the ship is of interest to you is your decision and pricing although both cabins appear to be identical in size amenities and accommodations. If you have not done this - go to the NCL.com site click on the ship (Escape) and locate deck plans and click on that. This site is provided free by CruiseDeckPlans.com and gives you basic deck plans for your ship. For a small fee (lifetime) there is oh so much more pictures and moveable decks to how everything fits together on every cruise ship and cruise line. Jeff6605 Posted July 8, 2016 Author #6 Share Posted July 8, 2016 Good information! Follow-up. I know passengers can do a 1 day curtesy hold on a preferred pick at the time. Is it good to wait until midnight to see if some rooms release and have a pick at those? Anyone played with that option? Other than that I seem to like the first pick. Thanks! don't-use-real-name Posted July 8, 2016 #7 Share Posted July 8, 2016 If you are working with a TA more hold time can be in place holding a room (s). Often an TA will or his company will hold a block of rooms check and see if yours is one of those for a special offering. But the closer it is to sailing don't fool around - as soon as a cabin is released there are piranha waiting in the lurch or is that lunch. There are these piranhas waiting as the clock ticks midnight EDT (NCL Main Office reservations time). Best advice secure the cabin of your choice without regard to promos or pricing - booked far enough in advance there will be changes in price and promos. Play the game down to the final payment and if something pops up better grab it but remember you may give up a cost savings promo package for a lower cabin fee or a combination of the two. Consider dealing with a TA who will check frequently for the best deal from what you have and with your approval effect the change without waiting for the clock to strike 12 ! TAs have direct phone contact with NCL and do not have to que up on the musical hold time line. Also working with a TA may reduce the down payment required to hold the cabin - TA fees are generally $25 a booking with the TA company footing the down payment until more definite arrangements are made. While there are no more AARP discounts any longer dealing with a large TA accounts i.e. AAA and a partner airline fly and cruise packages there are lots of ways to enhance your savings promos and cabin selection. Check on the seminars that a TA Company offers for deals coming up ! Don't give up the ship (I mean the cabin) even after boarding the ship there are possibilities (not all the time) for better cabin upsell upgrade cancellation or other offering. Be flexible - be that piranha or vulture waiting in the wings for a better deal.
Jeff6605 Posted July 8, 2016 Author #8 Share Posted July 8, 2016 Thanks! I waited until midnight, and scored a (maybe) upgrade from Triangle to Plus sign, Room 15262. Is this better than 15266? If so, I will just book that and be done. Only other option is to wait closer to cruise and pay last minute deals because I am so close to August 14 sailing. Do not know how that plays out? The whole waiting game. Thanks!
Rare blackwing Posted July 8, 2016 #9 Share Posted July 8, 2016 Pretty sure they are the same room class. The only difference is that 15262 can sleep 4 whereas 15266 sleeps 3. This means that in 15262 there will be a pullman bed that pulls down from the ceiling. The major difference is that in the rooms that sleep 4, your bed will definitely be near the balcony (as opposed to next to the closet). Not sure about 15266... your bed could be either near the balcony or the closet, can't really tell from the map.

hsid Posted October 13, 2023 #11 Share Posted October 13, 2023 It was such a thrilling experience to explore the escape room underneath the Garden Cafe on the NCL Escape! The ambiance and puzzles added an exciting twist to our cruise, and we had a blast working together to solve them. Kudos to the cruise staff for creating this unique and entertaining activity.
