TigerLady Posted July 12, 2016 #51 Share Posted July 12, 2016 (edited) Actually the thread was about who carries large sums of money. As the OP I did not discuss the taxi driver (who did do the right thing). You really should read the original post before chastising people for not paying attention. Whatever.. Biker19 Posted July 12, 2016 #55 Share Posted July 12, 2016 Maybe RCI wanted to get him into the the casino? The freebie was given to the cab driver not the homeless guy with the money - how is RCI going to make any money off a cabbie with no money? They won't - they try to get it with the publicity. makiramarlena Posted July 12, 2016 #56 Share Posted July 12, 2016 story was going around in this area about a woman who had around 12K in cash in a handbag because she was planning to use it to pay her daughter's college tuition. She left the handbag hanging on the back of a chair after stopping at a Dunkin Donuts. Didn't realize for awhile that she had forgotten it. It disappeared. There was a woman seen on the DD's cameras walking away with the purse, don't think they ever found her. Somebody out there covered the daughter's tuition. TC1957 Posted July 12, 2016 #57 Share Posted July 12, 2016 Kudos to RCI for giving the cab driver a free cruise. Nice outcome. [emoji3] Really nice for him...until next February when he gets that little thing called a 1099. The value will be taxed as ordinary income. Hope he isn't planning on a refund next year...or if he is, he accounts for that extra liability.

My first cruise was one that I won through a contest a work. 3 night cruise aboard the Majesty for two with airfare. I think I ended up paying more in taxes than if I had just booked it on my own! Oh well...got us hooked...
sfaaa Posted July 12, 2016 #59 Share Posted July 12, 2016 Newsflash, People can be honest and not worry about an IRS Audit. You also can carry the cash out of the Country as Long as it´s declared. May be so. But from IRS's point of view, everyone is a potential tax cheat or money launderer until proven innocent.
