markannab Posted July 21, 2016 #1 Share Posted July 21, 2016 (edited) My wife and I, both in our 40's, rarely stop on cruises. Often, we choose stairs over lifts because they're quicker and there's no queues. We've been on cruises with teenage family members and they can't keep up! Maybe we're just strange! By 6:30am, we're normally out of bed and on the go. We'll get involved in a variety of activities such as dance and cocktail classes, rock climbing, etc. We stay up late, so there's usually a 30-minute siesta around 3:00pm. Upon rising, we'll get dressed up – even if it's not a formal or cocktail night. We love old time rock 'n' roll dance so, in preparation for dance opportunities in the evening, my wife will wear a full circle dress/skirt and high heels; I'll wear braces, tie, hat, etc. The funny thing is, our first port of call (pardon the pun) upon leaving our room is usually to have a drink. So we'll mosey into the public areas and are the only ones dressed up. Others are still scuffing around in thongs and board shorts (not that there's anything wrong with that). Not surprisingly, we get a few second looks. We used to find that a bit embarrassing but not anymore. After dinner, we'll more often than not go to live bands rather than the shows, grab a drink and dance when the music is right. When the music finishes, there's time for one more snack and a cuppa before bed. Six or seven hours later, we begin the routine again. It's funny how people cruise in different ways. We've seen so many cruising with perpetual hangovers and wonder how they can look back on the cruise with particularly good memories. Others, even without drink, drag themselves out of bed at 10:00 or 11:00am – long after we've already had a sunrise cuppa, breakfast, morning tea and done one or two activities. There's no criticism meant in any of this, but the variation in ideas on cruising is so varied. Edited July 21, 2016 by markannab

Rare OzKiwiJJ Posted July 21, 2016 #3 Share Posted July 21, 2016 We like to be up in time for breakfast in the MDR - I hate tea in clunky plastic mugs. If we time it right we'll have time for a stroll before trivia. Then we grab an espresso. We love to be out in the fresh sea air so if it's warm enough we change into our swimmers, and head out to find a shady spot. If we're on Princess we go to the Sanctuary. On cooler cruises we might go to a dance class. We read and watch the ocean. Have lunch, often in the MDR. Read and watch the ocean some more. Sometimes we'll have a cocktail. Have afternoon tea. We usually choose the late dining option so often stay on deck until 5:30-6pm. Go back to the cabin to shower and change for dinner. Have a cocktail, then have dinner. Sometimes we'll go to a show, sometimes we'll just go to one of the bars and listen to the music. Eventually we head off to bed.
Rare Kinkacruiser Posted July 21, 2016 #4 Share Posted July 21, 2016 Ditto re the 'chunky plastic mugs'....we're taking our own next cruise. Our sea days are pretty much unplanned after regular commitments (gym, buffet meals, choir and drinks). (Using the stairs is also great for warding off the nasty viruses lurking in the lifts). ozscot01 Posted July 21, 2016 #7 Share Posted July 21, 2016 We let the mood take us! Sometimes a lazy day pottering around the pool and re-arranging chairs in the shade so they are just so([emoji23]), other days busy ones heading from trivia to shuffleboard, and whatever activities are on offer. It tends to be influenced by the previous port days and how pooped we are from fitting in all the must do's ashore. Every day's a good day[emoji5]

First sea day we usually explore the ship from bow to stern. Trivia Warm/hot days fit in a couple of swims and lie in the sun Cool days read Lunch, we try different places for lunch. Swim, read and/or movie. Late afternoon DH heads for his favorite bar and new friends.Early in the cruise he checks out all the bars for the most entertaining barmen/women Some days I have a Nana nap, then get ready for dinner Drag DH away from bar Head for dinner by 7.30pm, we both like anytime dining and now prefer to cruise on ships that provide this service.
