Cruise next certificate question

Recommended Posts

Because they give you what amounts to a rebate when you buy them (charge the full cost to your on-board account, then give you a credit for the rebate to your on-board account).

The net cost to you is $125 if you buy 2 or more. It's $150 if you only buy 1.

Is the rebate on your on-board account refundable? Can I use it for the Daily Service Charge?

There's nothing to be refunded. The rebate is just a discount on the certificate. Your account gets charged the full price of each certificate ($250), and then gets credited $125 per certificate (or $100 if you only bought one). You'll still have a bill for the remaining charge.

Great! I was afraid that the rebate would be entered in a separate section in my account so that I would be charged $500 in the same category as the Daily Service Charge and get back a non-refundable credit for $250 good only for other purchases onboard such as duty free, special restaurants, spa... This solves my worries. Thanks!

I was recently cruising on Gem and purchased two cruise next certificates. But when I log in into my NCL account, I do not see info about these certificates anywhere. Where shall I look for them on NCL website?

Depends on how recently you are off the ship - it took about 3 weeks for them to show up in my account. Call NCL if you want and they will be able to confirm over the phone the vouchers are there, they explained the website takes a while to update.

Once you log in, go to "My NCL" at the top and once you click on that you'll see "My Coupons and Credits" below, which are your cruise next certificates once they are uploaded. :)

Thank you! They were uploaded today only, that is why I did not see them before :)

Also, total aside, if you use your CruiseNext deposit to secure your cruise, you don't have to pay the remainder of the deposit. When we booked our cruise, myNCL showed that we still owed an $800 deposit (with final payment due in September). When I asked my PCC, he said that the CruiseNext deposit covered the full deposit amount. Nice not to have to give NCL our hard-earned cash until next month :)

Atomax/All - I have a question on using CruiseNext as a deposit. We just got off the Getaway and bought 4 $500 CruiseNext certificates and the "double up" promotion was going on. The NCL staff person said 2 certificates would be counted as a full Haven deposit thereby saving us $500 in deposit money each time for two cruises (4 deposits purchased, 2 used per cruise.) Wanting to save as much as possible, I questioned her on the ability to just use ONE of the certificates as a full deposit but she said we had to use TWO each time. This seems contrary to the NCL terms and conditions which state:

Limit (1) CruiseNext Haven Deposit ($500 each) may be used as the full deposit for all staterooms including Suites and The Haven by Norwegian (staterooms requiring enhanced deposit).

Has anyone used one CruiseNext deposit as a full Haven deposit?

Thanks in advance! Chomping at the bit to book the next cruise!! :')

I'll add in my own question here. I was told that I can use 2 CruiseNext certificates on one booking if I book a balcony at least 6 months in advance. This is what I plan to do but I'm curious what happens if later I decide to downgrade to an Interior or OV? Has anyone had to do this? Did they refund one of your certificates or did you get to keep both of them on the booking?

The best use for 2 cruise nexts is a solo casino comp (balcony or higher) it will cover your room, taxes, beverage package/dining package and prepaid daily service charges.

Sample of Florida/Bahama run

Admin fee $140.00

Port fee $172.95

UBP/Dining $138.40

Daily svc fee. $ 97.93

Total $549.28

2 cruise next. <$250.00>

OBC <$100.00>

Net cost $199.28 ** If you decline the food/Bev package and only take shore credit and internet your net cost would only be $60.88**

The Bermuda run would have a net cost of $251.99 (or $113.59 with shore & internet) due to port fees being $52.71 higher then the Florida/Bahamas run ($225.66)

Not to shabby for a weeks vacay if you book it right.

They are virtual. Log into your MyNCL account and the certificates should be showing at the bottom of the first page that appears after log in. If you have any cruises booked they will be listed first and then your certificates will be listed after the cruises. It may take a few days after the end of your cruise for them to show up.

I did exactly what you're referring to (originally booked a balcony...later downgraded to interior) and was expecting the second certificate to be redeposited. Lo and behold, when my TA made the change they allowed the entire deposit (both certificates) to be applied to the new booking. Not sure if this was a glitch in their system, nor am I sure it will ever happen again, but I'm past final payment, so it's a done deal for me.

You forgot to take into account the actual loss at the casino :-)
