How much do you tip?

I know that everyone feels differently on this subject. We have always left an envelope on our desk every morning with $10 in it for our room steward. The amount the ship automatically charges is shared by the whole crew. We have always interacted with our room steward and have gotten excellent service on every cruise we have been on. I can't say for sure it's because of the extra money we leave but it might help. The $5/ea for the two of us a day is a small charge when you consider what you pay for the cruise and excursions and I'm sure is appreciated by the hard working steward. But understand that this is just my opinion....I'm sure there are others who would disagree with me. So there really isn't a right or wrong answer to this one ... enjoy your travels and be safe...

also goes to the dining room Stewart. So if you remove the automatic gratuity is now you have to pay your dining room Stewart is well at the end of your cruise. Herbster you should get it's about 350 to 450 per person per day for each cabin out of the total and the dining room Sturgus the same amount. The assistant get about a dollar

I've never been concerned about a thief. We use the Cruisin' sign when we've been in and out of the room a lot and think the steward would appreciate the heads up that it's a good time to service the room.

You missed the part about putting out the cruising sign when it's time to do the room. AND nobody expects to get robbed. Putting out the do not disturb is a habit I picked up after my friend surprised a thief in Las Vegas. He was murdered and the crime never solved.

The text to voice on my phone didn't do a proper job. I didn't chech before posting.

What I meant is . The automatic service charges covers not only the room Stewart . It includes the MDR waiter , assistant waiter and buffet staff.

The room Steward and MDR server each get about $4 each on the auto gratuity . This depends on the cruise line.

In Sept. I will be paying almost 13.00/day prepaid gratuities...on 7 days, times approximately 3,000 people, that's approximately 275,000.00 given for tips....not sure how it is divided but some staff are salaried....As far as giving exta tip to room steward....can I ask....does anyone tip their cleaning lady if they stay in a hotel for more than 1 night? Probably not...I generally NEVER ask for ANYTHING from my room steward on the ship...last one NEVER even emptied the garbage? So I don't think so...If I do tip extra....IT WILL BE TO A BAR TENDER.....that's where it makes a difference...for me anyways....

You can always give them some chocolates. Especially if they are from your home state. Whether you recognize it or not, they work very very hard.

Well since you asked, yes every time. Even for one night. Especially for multiple nights and more if it's with my family. Family makes a bigger mess than I do by myself but not by much.

I tend to stay in the same hotels around the state for work but I'd tip the maid even if I knew I knew I was never coming back. I tip the valet too.

John Deere tractor pins are popular substitutes for money too.

I only trade Disney pins and pins from Hard Rock Cafe - and many of them are priceless due to the memories... So I will probably not do that.

We always have good service. First, I try to interact with the crew. That makes them feel like they matter.

The last cruise was especially great, and the members that went out of their way to make the cruise really nice got extra grease, in person.

I cannot describe how well the service was. My review does not really describe it. By the end of the cruise, there were several members that are now friends. Others that went out of their way also were appropriately rewarded.

On the other hand, if there were members that were not courteous over the entire cruise, then I will discuss that with a manager. So far, I have never had to do that. Likewise, if there are people that went out of their way, I also discussed that with their manager. I have done that before.

Yes the gratuities that are paid via your Sign and Sail Card, are likely to be split among the job positions. I always add the extra grease via handshake (the old fashioned way.)

The moral: Be sure to award the crew appropriately. If you add additional tips, do it in person.

Why yes I do. Service always gets a tip. I probably won't see them but I know they are going to clean that room after I have slept in the bed, used the shower/tub, made use of the trash can, etc.

And I am sure you make a lot of bartenders happy.

Yes, always. My mother was a hotel maid for years and I was taught how important it is. They're often treated like servants..some people don't even acknowledge them. I always make sure to smile and say hello/thank you.

I pre-pay my cruise grats and I also tip my steward/waiters a little extra at the end.

i do...even if it's just 1 night. I put it on the notepad and write "thank you" on it so they know it's a tip.

absolutely!!!!!!! Please always tip the hotel room housekeeper even if you just stay one night. It's the fair thing to do.

Is it proper to tip separately the Entertainment Bands (Filipino Bands) that usually play outside the casino? They are all very good and was just wondering if that is allowed. Thanks for the info.

Makes them funny though.

lol, My wife and I once went a couple days just letting whatever autocorrect/text to voice write stand. Then at night after work we'd try and figure out what the heck we were talking about. There's a few there we still don't know. :)
