Cozumel - private tour, incl. San Gervasio

We have had some of our best vacation experiences using private guides (our tour guide in Bermuda was phenomenal) and I'm curious about people's experiences, if any, with private guides on Cozumel. We'd like to see the San Gervasio ruins early in the morning, maybe do a quick tour of the island, then spend the afternoon on our own in the town. Any thoughts or recommendations would be much appreciated.

Black Hat tours, or you can just hire a taxi for 2-3 hours, depending upon how long you plan to spend at the ruins. Tour the east side of Coz, enjoy the scenery and funky bars, and then have the driver drop you at your favorite beach club for a few hours (Paradise Beach or the Money Bar would be my suggestions) or maybe downtown for shopping.

Sounds like a good plan! . Here is the website for ruins, if you haven't already seen it

It looks like the ruins are open earlier than I remember but you could check with driver.

We have always toured with ToursPlaza ( several times) Google for website and suggestions for tours. From the ports it is easy to go out to the ruins, and carry on round the east side to make a circle of the island and come back via the southern beach clubs - more popular, so more crowded but easier to pick up transport. You should keep your driver to the ruins to tour round the island but you can get dropped off at one if the southern beach clubs (finish your tour) and easily pick up a taxi back to port when you are ready.

We used Hiring a Driver for the Day tours about 4 years ago and it was great. Our driver, Alberto, spoke perfect English and we spent much of the day with him driving us around the island. We told him what we wanted to see and let him also make suggestions.
