Licoriceky2 Posted August 4, 2016 #1 Share Posted August 4, 2016 Going in January, want an AI...we have been to the Cozumel Palace (a few years ago) and enjoyed it, but wanted to see if there were better AI's out there for us. We are mid to late 30's, prefer low key (we are not party people), only one of us drinks (not heavily), definitely want an AI, and would love to have a nice pool(s), and a decent place to snorkel at the location. We are not big "beach"/sand people so to snorkel can be a direct entrance to the water by steps etc. We are not necessarily picky regarding families or adults only, just low(er) key. Thank you for your input!!
JohninDC Posted August 4, 2016 #2 Share Posted August 4, 2016 Great snorkeling from the shore at the Money Bar, but it is not AI - strictly pay as you go and no pool (or beach). The two popular AI beach clubs (Nachi Cocom and Mr. Sanchos) offer poor snorkeling from the shore; to enjoy good snorkeling you would need to purchase their add on snorkel tour (about $30+ for about 90 minutes). No beach with good sand and waves will offer good snorkeling - the sand and waves cloud the water and there are no rocks/reefs for the fish to thrive in. Of the two, Nachi is more low key and less crowded and offers a small pool w/swim-up bar :D plus a hot tub. Chankanaab Marine park offers both a small pool, small beach and separate snorkel area -- not AI and admission is about $20 each.
ekajun1957 Posted August 5, 2016 #3 Share Posted August 5, 2016 We have been to Nachi Cocom and really like it. Never did their snorkeling as usually snorkel at another port and did a great snorkel trip in Cozumel before. Their snorkel is advertised as being a glass bottom boat, 90 minutes, NEW snorkel, and they go to Palancar Reef, 8 people per trip. $38 plus $2 park fee. That's bit high as one snorkel outfit in Cozumel is $45 for 3 stops. Which makes the price for AI and snorkel $95. Hard to find that perfect combination of things. BUT I find Nachi Cocom near perfect because of the nice quiet atmosphere, limited number of people, food good, service good. Makes for a great last stop on our previous and next cruise. wolfganghowell Posted August 9, 2016 #4 Share Posted August 9, 2016 Most Cozumel beaches have rocky entrances so your best snorkel bet is from a boat. And as others have said, sandy beaches make for great swimming but not great snorkeling from the beach. Nachi Cocom does sound like a good choice for you - beautiful, low key. The pool is nice - not amazing but nice. The hot tub is really more of a warm tub - never had it be hot. The food is good and service is top notch. It's not a party place UNLESS a large group books it and takes over. We've been there multiple times and have never seen that happen though. Thank you for your input!! You have already visited one of the top rated resort hotels. There are plenty of other hotels of various standards which offer AI day passes - check through brokers Cozumel watersports or shore excursioneer to see if any others appeal to you, Hotel Cozumel and some of the northern resorts have rocky shorelines and therefore improved snorkeling. These will offer the best pools. There are several AI beach bars on Cozumel, some already suggested to you. several will have pools but much smaller than resort hotels and if on the sandy beaches as suggested you would need to take a boat for better snorkeling. If you are willing to PAYG Money Bar would offer best snorkeling from shore but no pool, and Paradise Beach probably best pool but would require boat excursion to snorkel. The Money Bar is a good place to shore or surface snorkeling. NOt an AI though.
